7. Explain the chain rule for derivatives.

8. Consider the function 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟐. Use the product rule to find the derivative of the

function f(x)g(x) where 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟑 .

Using the product rule, the derivative of f(x)g(x) is given by:

(f(x)g(x))' = f'(x)g(x) + f(x)g'(x) = (2x + 3)(x^3) + (x^2 + 3x + 2)(3x^2) = 6x^4 + 9x^3 + 6x^2 + 9x^2 + 9x + 6 =
6x^4 + 18x^3 + 15x^2 + 9x + 6
So, the derivative of the function f(x)g(x) = 6x^4 + 18x^3 + 15x^2 + 9x + 6.

9. Consider the function 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟑 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟐. Use the quotient rule to find the

derivative of the function f(x)/g(x).

apply the quotient rule formula:

(f(x)/g(x))' = (f'(x)g(x) - f(x)g'(x)) / (g(x))^2
The derivative of f(x) can be found using the power rule: f'(x) = 3x^2
The derivative of g(x) can be found using the sum and power rules: g'(x) = 2x + 3
Now, substituting these into the quotient rule formula, we get:
(f(x)/g(x))' = [(3x^2)(x^2 + 3x + 2) - (x^3)(2x + 3)] / (x^2 + 3x + 2)^2
Simplifying the numerator, we get:
[(3x^4 + 9x^3 + 6x^2) - (2x^4 + 3x^3)] / (x^2 + 3x + 2)^2 = (x^4 + 6x^3 + 6x^2) / (x^2 + 3x + 2)^2
= x^2(x + 3) / (x + 1)^2(x + 2)^2

10. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟏, find the derivative of the product function f(x)g(x).

(f(x)g(x))' = f'(x)g(x) + f(x)g'(x)

First, we need to find the derivatives of f(x) and g(x): f'(x) = 2x and g'(x) = 3
Now we can substitute these values into the product rule formula:
(f(x)g(x))' = (2x)(3x + 1) + (x^2)(3)
= 6x^2 + 2x + 3x^2
= 9x^2 + 2x

11. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝟐𝒙𝟑 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟒, find the derivative of the product function f(x)g(x).

First, we need to find the derivatives of f(x) and g(x):

f'(x) = 6x^2
g'(x) = 2x + 3
Now we can substitute these values into the product rule formula:

(f(x)g(x))' = (24x^2)(x^2 + 3x + 4) + (8x^3)(2x + 3)

= 24x^4 + 72x^3 + 96x^2 + 16x^4 + 24x^3
= 40x^4 + 96x^3 + 96x^2

12. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟒 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙 + 𝟏, find the derivative of the quotient function f(x)/g(x).

First, we need to find the derivatives of f(x) and g(x):

f'(x) = 2x + 3
g'(x) = 1
Now we can substitute these values into the quotient rule formula:
(f(x)/g(x))' = [(2x + 3)(x + 1) - (x^2 + 3x + 4)(1)] / (x + 1)^2
= (2x^2 + 5x - 1) / (x + 1)^2

13. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟑 + 𝟐𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟒 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟏, find the derivative of the quotient

function f(x)/g(x).

(f(x)/g(x))' =
[(3x^2 + 4x + 3)(x^2 + 2x + 1) - (x^3 + 2x^2 + 3x + 4)(2x + 2)] / (x^2 + 2x + 1)^2 =
[(3x^4 + 10x^3 + 11x^2 + 4x + 3) - (2x^4 + 6x^3 + 7x^2 + 8x + 8)] / (x^2 + 2x + 1)^2 =
(x^4 + 4x^3 + 4x^2 - 4x - 5) / (x^2 + 2x + 1)^2

14. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟐 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟑 , find the derivative of the composite function f(g(x)).

To find the derivative of the composite function f(g(x)), we need to use the chain rule, which states that:
(f(g(x)))' = f'(g(x)) * g'(x)
First, we need to find the derivative of the outer function f(x):
f'(x) = 2x + 3
Next, we need to find the derivative of the inner function g(x) and then substitute it into the chain rule formula:
g'(x) = 3x^2
(f(g(x)))' = f'(g(x)) * g'(x) = (2g(x) + 3) * 3x^2 = (2x^3 + 3) * 3x^2 = 6x^5 + 9x^2

15. If 𝒇(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟑 + 𝟐𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙 + 𝟒 and 𝒈(𝒙) = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟏, find the derivative of the composite

function f(g(x)).

To find the derivative of the composite function f(g(x)), we need to use the chain rule, which states that:
(f(g(x)))' = f'(g(x)) * g'(x)
First, we need to find the derivative of the outer function f(x):
f'(x) = 3x^2 + 4x + 3
Next, we need to find the derivative of the inner function g(x) and then substitute it into the chain rule formula:
g'(x) = 2x + 2
(f(g(x)))' = f'(g(x)) * g'(x) = (3(g(x))^2 + 4(g(x)) + 3) * (2x + 2) = (3(x^2+2x+1)^2 + 4(x^2+2x+1) + 3) * (2x + 2)
Simplifying this expression gives:
(f(g(x)))' = (3x^4 + 16x^3 + 31x^2 + 24x + 10) * (2x + 2) = 6x^5 + 34x^4 + 73x^3 + 79x^2 + 48x + 10
