CEP Report

This document analyzes the dynamic structure of Kirani Bridge in Quetta, Pakistan using CSI Bridge software. The bridge is 80 meters long with 4 spans of 20 meters each. Various materials including concrete and steel are modeled based on their properties. The bridge components are analyzed under different AASHTO load combinations to determine critical values for deformation, stresses, moments, and shear forces. These critical values will help with designing and assessing the structural integrity of the bridge.

1. ABSTRACT
This document presents the structure analysis of Kirani bridge using CSI Bridge Software.
The model of the bridge is prepared in the software using different materials and cross-
section properties for components of bridge. The bridge components are analyzed under
different load combination of AASHTO-LRFD-12. Using these load combinations, we will
get the critical values for deformation, forces and stresses etc. These critical values are used
for different purposes such as designing purpose.
2. INTRODUCTION
2.1. BACKGROUND:
The Kirani bridge was proposed by Government of Baluchistan (Communication and Works
department) and designed by CAMEOS Consultants Engineers, Architects and Planners in
2011. First it was constructed in 2011 and the length of the bridge was 40m initially. It was
redesigned in 2014 and the length was extended to 80m.

2.2. PARAMETERS:
 Length of the bridge: 80 m.
 Span 4@20.
 Roadway width: 7.320 m.

2.3. MATERIALS:
The following materials are used for bridge construction.

Concrete Piles, pier shaft, Deck Slab & Diaphragms

Class A3 (27.50 N/mm²) (4000psi)
Approach Slab and Barrier
Class Al (20.60 N/mm ²) (3000psi)
Transom
Class A2 (24.0 N/mm ²) (3500psi)
Precast Prestressed Concrete Girders
Class D2 (41.70 N/mm ²) (6000psi)
Steel reinforcement Grade 40 & 60 AASHTO M31.

Pre-stressing steel Grade 270.

3. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
To perform the structure analysis of Kirani bridge using CSI Bridge software under the
ASSHTO LRFD-12 load combinations.

4. OBJECTIVE:
To perform the structure analysis of Kirani bridge using CSI Bridge software under the
ASSHTO LRFD-12 load combinations.

5. METHODOLOGY:
5.1. SOFTWARE:
Modern engineering software give enormous variety of software’s for the analysis of the
bridges. Here are the most popular versions of such types of software: Midas Civil software,
SAP2000, STAAD Pro, CSI Bridge, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, RISA, LARSA 4D
Bridge Series and CSI Bridge. Here CSI Bridge Software is used for modeling and analysis
of the bridge.

5.2. METHOD:
The CSI Bridge software use finite element method for analysis. The finite element method
(FEM) is a general tool for solving differential equations suitable for structural engineering
applications. FEM is capable of handling large structural mechanics problems by discretizing
the problem into a finite number of elements, which in turn is governed by equations.

3
5.3. LOAD COMBINATIONS:
The load combinations used in Midas Civil are as per AASHTO LRFD-16 given below:

7. CONCLUSION:
We as a group concluded this Complex Engineering Problem with the Modelling and Bridge
Analysis results using CSI Bridge softwere, based on the values of maximum effects from
three major structural analysis parameters, i.e

 Deflections
 Moments
 Shear Stress
 And influence line diagram

The Deformation and Moments were analyzed on the whole for the bridge with respect to
time history ,dead load, truck load and tank load. Similarly, Shear Stresses were analyzed
individually for time history,Dead load ,tank load ,truck load and shear stress due to combo
of all spans collectively.

Thus, we get the critical values and the critical locations for all the parameters which are
necessary for design and hence, it concluded our assigned work.
