Linear Inequalities in Two Variables

The document outlines a lesson plan for an 8th grade mathematics class on linear inequalities in two variables. The plan includes the content standards, learning competencies, activities for teachers and students, and resources. The teacher will lead activities to motivate students and help them differentiate between linear equations and inequalities. Students will work in groups to identify mathematical statements as equations or inequalities and graph various functions. The goal is for students to understand key concepts about linear inequalities involving two variables.

Date: November 24-25, 2022

I. CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of linear
inequalities in two variables.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner is able to formulate and solve accurately real-life problems
involving linear inequalities in two variables.
LEARNING COMPETENCY/OBJECTIVES
At the end of 60 minutes discussion, the learners will be able to:
1. Illustrates linear inequalities in two variables.
2. Differentiates linear inequalities in two variables from linear
equations in two variables.
3. Graphs linear inequalities in two variables.
4. Shows determination in graphing linear inequalities in two
variables.

II. CONTENT
Topic: Linear Inequalities in Two Variables and its Graph.

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

1. Mathematics Learner’s Module (pp 209-219)

B. Motivation - The teacher will play the
game “Teacher says”
- The mechanics of this game
is that, if the command
consist of the word Teacher,
the students will follow the
instruction, but if the
command has no word
“teacher”, the students will
not follow the instruction.
- The student who will fail to
follow the command will
identify if the given example
by the teacher is a direct or
inverse variation.
The following questions should
be answered
1. Who is the proponent of the
Cartesian plane?
2. How did he discover the
cartesian plane?
3. what ordered pairs can be
found in quadrant I
4. When the ordered pairs are
all negative, it can be found

in what quadrant?
5. The line of x-axis is?
6. Example of the horizontal
line that can be found in
your surroundings
C. Analysis Try to give these following
questions to the class, but the
answer should be given after
the discussion
- In what way we can identify
which is an equation and
which is an inequality?
- When we say two variables,
what is the meaning of that?
- Can we differentiate the
difference between equation
and inequality?
- How to graph linear
inequality in two variables?
- Is inequality present in our
daily lives?
All throughout the two-day
discussion of this topic, the
students will unlock new
knowledge about variation and
develop higher order thinking
skills
D. Abstraction In introducing the topic, the
teacher will have an activity in
which the learners are able to
identify what is the topic for
today’s discussion
Group Activity:
EXPRESS YOURSELF!
1. Group the class into 10 groups.
Each group should convene on
what to answer in the given
question
2. the group who will give the
correct answer will be given 20
points if they got wrong answer,
they will have 10 pts
2. Prepare 2 pieces of cartolina

equations in two variables (Column
A) and the other one is for linear

inequalities in two variables
(Column B).
3. Prepare also 10 mathematical
statements using metacards. Let
the students identify whether it is
linear equations or linear
inequalities in two variables.
4. Call pair of student volunteer to
choose one metacard and let them
post their answers on the
appropriate column.
5. Let the students identify
whether it is linear equations or
linear inequalities in two variables.

ASK these following questions to

the class to bring them to the topic
itself:
1. How do mathematical
statements in Column A differ from
the mathematical statements in
Column B?
2. Were you able to identify them
easily?
3. How will you describe linear
equations in two variables?
4. How will you determine linear
inequalities in two variables?
5. What makes linear inequality
different from linear equations?

How about an inequality?

Very good class.

Now, let’s differentiate equation

and inequality.

Inequalities are used all the time

in the world around us - we just
have to know where to look. You
are confronted with mathematical
inequalities almost everyday, but
you may not notice them because
they are so familiar.
Think about the following
