Lesson - Plan - For - COT - EDU S. CHIONG

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching slope of a line to 8th grade students. It includes objectives to determine slope, solve for slope values, and understand its real-life applications. Students will participate in an activity to identify the topic of "slope of a line" from clues. The teacher will then explain how to calculate slope using a formula involving rise over run between two points. Students will practice applying their new knowledge by working in groups to solve slope problems and present their answers.

4A's DETAILED LESSON PLAN (Grade 8-Quezon)

I. Objectives
At the end of 60 minutes discussion and activities for Grade-8 Quezon students of Sta Maria National High
School (SMNHS) are expected to learn the following objectives with at least 75% of accuracy and proficiency:
a. Determine what is a slope of a line.
b. Solve the value of a slope.
c. Appreciate the value of the topic in the real life.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Slope of a line

Materials: Learning Materials which include visual aids, Chalk, scratch tape and e.t.c.
Reference: Grade 8 textbook
Other reference: YouTube

III. Procedure

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

A. Preliminary Activities/Daily Routine

 Prayer

" Before we start, may I request everyone to

(Students will all stand)
stand for our short prayer"

"Jonil, kindly lead the prayer"

Jonil, will lead the prayer.

(Let us bow down our head and put ourselves to the

presence of the Lord)
"Opening prayer...Amen.
Opening prayer...Amen.

 Greetings
"Good Morning class! "
"How are you today?" Good morning Sir!
"That’s good to hear."
"Okay, you may now take your seat." We are good Sir!
 Checking of Attendance
Is everybody present for today?

“very good!”
 Setting of Standards

This time, before we will start our class this

Yes Sir, everybody is present today.
morning, I would Ike you to remember our classroom
rules.

What will you do if the teacher is talking in front?

Yes, Jen?
Very Good Jen !
How about if I’m asking Questions?
Yes ,Roy?

Very good Roy!

Ok. Since we have now our classroom, does Listen carefully Sir!
everybody agree?

Ok Very Good! Raise your right hand Sir!

STUDENTS: Yes Sir!

B. Priming/Activating Prior Knowledge

 Review

"Now, class before we will proceed to our

new topic for today ,we shall have first a
short review."
.

"Okay class, what was our previous topic?

Yes, Hannah

Very Good Hannah!

"Does everybody understand the topic?"

Very Good!

(Students will raise their hands)

C. Lesson Development Sir our previous topic is all about changing Linear
Equation to Slope intercept form and vice versa.
A. Motivation / Activity

 "Now class, for you to know our next topic, Let us

have a short activity. This activity is called "Find the
missing letters"
 I will divide you into three(3) groups. Each group will STUDENTS:
choose their leader and secretary.
 The leader will be the one to get the task in front and Yes Sir!
the secretary will be assigned to write down the
names of the group member in a 1/4 sheet of paper.
Those members of the group who will not cooperate
in during the activity ,they will automatically not
included on the list.

And of course they will be deducted to their

grades
"Do you understand?"

" Here are the mechanics of the activity:

1.I have here two Envelope with numbers, 1 and 2

2.I have placed a word with missing letters in envelope 1 while

hints or definition of the words is placed in envelope 2

3.Each group will be given a 2minutes to find the missing

letters of the words in the envelope based on the given hints
and definition.
Yes Sir!
4.If the group could find the missing letters the assigned
secretary will be the one to write the words on the chalkboard.

5.The first group who will able to complete the activity will be
given the highest points

"Do you understand?"

Ok, Time Start now!

 Envelope 1 (Students are listening)

1. S_OP_ OF A L_N_

 Envelope 2
1. The steepness of a line as it moves from
left to right.

C. Analysis (PROPEL INTEGRATION)

"Now based on the activity that you did,
what will be the topic that we will discuss this Yes S.ir
morning?
Ah. Dolly?
Very Good!
Very good Dolly! 1. SLOPE OF A LINE

Posting visual aids.

Ok, who will read?

Yes, johny?
Slope is the steepness of a line as it moves
from LEFT to RIGHT. Slope is the Ratio of the
Rise, the vertical change, to the run , the
horizontal change of a line..
Very Good John!

D. Abstraction
(Students will raise their hands)
"Now let's discuss about how to find a slope of a
line. "Based on the activity that we did, I think our topic is all
about “Slope of a line”.
First we must understand what is a slope ,
(THE TEACHER IS EXPLAINING WHAT JOHNY
READ’S)
Is it clear class?

Very good ! (Students will raise their hands)

Posting visual Aids: Johny is ready.

If P1(X1, Y1) and P2(X2, Y2), where X1 ≠ X2, then the slope m
of the line can be computed by the formula:
Ok , who wants to read?

Yes , Natalie?

Very good Nat..!

The Teacher explain what Natalie’s reading.
“STUDENT’S ARE LISTENING”
Is it clear class?

Very Good!
STUDENTS: Yes Sir!
TEACHER: Posting Visual aids.

The slope m of the line passing through two points P 1(X1,

Y1) and P2(X2, Y2) is given m = y2-y1 or m= y2-y1, where x1 ≠ x2.
x1 − x2 x1 − x2

Who wants to read?

Ok , Alice? Natalie is reading.

Very Good Alice! Now.

The teacher explain what Alice read’s with example..

Do you understand class?

E. Application Students : Yes SIR!

"Okay this time since you already understand our

topic.Let us have an application of what you have
learned."

"So,let's have a group activity again.I will not group you

anymore because we will just use your group earlier. Is
that okay for you class?

"Now,here are the things that you are going to do in

your activity:

1.Each group will be given 3 equations, in just 5minutes. Alice read.

2.All the members of the group will help to solve the

equation. Students listen.
3.Once you already got the answer, you have to choose Students: Yes Sir!
a reporter among the group to present your activity.

4.You will be graded according to rubrics.

Is it clear? Students listen.

3 P1(1,3) and P2(3,2)

The Teacher will check each student’s work and will be

graded according to the rubrics.

E. Generalization
"Now class, since you have already know what is a slope
and how solve the value of the slope, how are we going
to use this topic someday in our real life?

Yes, Leonila?

Very Good Leonila.

The teacher will give his personal insights of the topic.

Any Question class? Clarification?

Very Good!

IV. Evaluation Students will raise their hand.

"In a 1/2 sheet of paper cross wise. Find the slope of a

line given the following points. 5mins only
Leonila explain.
1. P1(1,2) and P2(2,4)

2. P1(3,1) and P2(1,2)

No Sir!
V. Assignment
