ACTIVITY ON THE BILL OF RIGHTS OF FILIPINOS

Read and analyze each of the situations below. On the space before each number, write V if the
situation exemplifies a violation to the Bill of Rights and NV for no violation. Write the number of the
Section of the Bill of Rights that the statement violates or observes.

___NV___ 1. Quincy who lives in Barangay Casisang turned on her videoke machine and sang at the top
of her lungs at 12 midnight.

___V, SECTION 14.1 ___ 2. A married woman named Lucy saw her husband holding a knife together
with his mistress, who is lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds. She immediately rushed to the
police station and reported the crime. The officers without trial convicted her husband for murder and
punished for reclusion perpetua.

___V, SECTION 2 ___ 3. For no apparent reason, the police stopped Rita while she was driving and
began to search through the trunk and her personal luggage.

_ NV ___ 4. Lisley planned to go to Syria and was not allowed by the police officers at the airport
because there was an order that she can’t travel because of the war happening there.

___V, SECTION 4 ___ 5. The students of BukSU protested in front of the administrative building against
the President, the following morning they were expelled from the university.

___NV ___ 6. The citizens of Upper Creek voted to double the taxes of all Catholics.

___NV___ 7. Jerald and his wife Merafi were accused of murder and their case were dismissed last
2010, the case was filed with the same evidence and witnesses on 2011, it was dismissed again because
the Judge ruled that no person shall be put to trial with the same case twice.

___V, SECTION 14.1___ 8. Czarine’s husband was killed during a car collision due to a drunk driver, the
case was filed last 1997 and it was on 2014 that the case was decided in favor of the driver.

___V, SECTION 12.2 ___ 9. The chief of Police, Ian Richard Mark caught the most notorious terrorist
Rosh. He refused to tell any of their planned attacks against the government. Sir Ian didn’t use any forms
of torture, intimidation or threat to the terrorist.

____NV___ 10. Karlin, because of her hate and anger towards her boyfriend, burned her own house in
an island where she doesn’t have any neighbor.

___V, SECTION 19.1 ____ 11. After being found guilty of driving while intoxicated, the court ordered
that
Carolyn spend the next 30 years in solitary.

___V, SECTION 2 ____ 12. Jeje was stopped by a police officer on his way home from school. The police
officer wanted to search Julio’s backpack because he heard a teenage boy robbed the candy store on the
corner.
___NV____13. Ruffy was invited by a friend to an ecumenical forum of five different religions. During
the forum, Ruffy was amazed at the fact that people in the Philippines could practice any religion of their
choice and could profess and practice their faith freely.

____V, SECTION 18.2___ 14. Rea was told by a Barangay Chairman that she could not reside in Barangay
Sto, Nino because the chairman and her father were political rivals.

____V, SECTION 19.1 __ 15. Judge M.T. Nasty ordered a doctor to cut off the right hand of Marty, a
convicted pickpocket.

___V, SECTION 4 ___ 16. Miggy had a well-written article for the school publication describing the
changes students would like to see at Makabayan National High School. The principal tried to stop
Miggy’s article from being published without any explanation.

___NV___ 17. A town needs more land to build a new elementary school. Cherry owns a vacant lot near
the proposed site of the school. The government officials urged her to sell her property and that she will
be paid with the actual price of the property.

___NV___ 18. Sheen Michael is accused for a crime. When he appears before the judge, Calvin asks for
help preparing his defense because he is too poor to afford a lawyer. The judge tells Calvin that he is
sorry he is poor and is provided with PAO lawyers.

___V, SECTION 5 ___ 19. Parsley’s boss dislikes the ideas of the church in which he belongs. When the
boss found out that he is a member of that church, he was fired from his work.

___V, SECTION 13 ___ 20. Elaine was sued for a crime that she did not commit on May 12, 2010. When
she appeared before the court, the judge told her that the trial will take place on June 15, 2013.

___V, SECTION 8 ___ 21. Chan lives near a factory that puts foul-smelling smoke in the air. Juanita and
her neighbors call a meeting at Chan's house to discuss what they can do about the smoke. However,
the police block the entrance to the home and tell people that they have no right to hold a meeting.

____V, SECTION 8, SECTION 18.1 ___ 22. Cherry is a member of the Cool Political Party. During their
assembly, she expressed her desire to be one of the senatorial candidates. Since the Chief of Police
dislikes the Cool Political Party’s platform, she, together with her colleagues, was arrested and
imprisoned.

____NV___ 23. June committed a heinous crime. Because of this, he is detained in a solitary detention
cell and no one is allowed to visit him throughout the duration of his imprisonment.

___V, SECTION 2 ____ 24. Juan found a letter addressed to a co-worker who was suspected to have
stolen large amount of money. He believes that the letter contains evidence that could prove his co-
worker’s guilt. With this, he opened and read the letter secretly.

____V, SECTION 4 ___ 25. A US representative prohibited a local newspaper from printing an editorial
that was critical of her voting record.
