BHD. ‘10 INTRODUCTION ‘This report presents the results of the Site Investigation works for Cadangan Projok Pembesaran Kampung Di Ates Tanah Seluas 216 Ekar, Kampung Bukit Kerayong, Mukim Jeram, Dserah Kuala Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Total two (02) numbers of bore holes wore carried out at the proposed sit, 4.4 OBJECTIVE ‘The objectives ofthis Soll Investigation works are a follow: 1) To obtain geotechnical information atthe sito to provide data inthe evaluation of subsequent construction ofthe proposed project. 1) To obiain disturbed and undisturbed soll samples for visual examination and {aboratory testing to determine the physical parameters cf the sol, li) Tomeasure the ground walor table a the site. 42 SCOPE OF WORK In In ordero compete the stated objectives, the folowing items of works were card out 4) Exploration of the subsoil conditon at the propased ste by advancing two (02) ‘number of boreholes. ) Performance of insitu Standard Penetration Test and sampling of disturbed and undisturbed samples in bore hoes. (9) Measuring ground water level 4) Perormance of laboratory test on selected samples, SEOGRETE SDN. HD, 13 GUIDELINE ON PRACTICE “The fold works fr rolary wash boreholes were carried outin compllance and accordance to the folowing quideine: 2) Brtish Standerd Code of Practice BS:5900-1981 (formerly CP20011957) “Site Investigations* ) Belish Standew Code of Practice 81377-1990 “Method of Test for Soil for Cl Engineering Purposes" 20 FIELD EXPLORATION Fieldwork was carid out from 28th February 2017 and O2nd March 2017, 2.1 EXPLORATORY BOREHOLE DRILLING ‘The purpose of exploratory dling isto determine the subsurface ground condition at the site and te obiain soll samples for tho determination of their properties, Exploratory boreholes were carried out using one (01) numberof skid mounted boring machines (Model [DOOR of YE). Mthod used to advance these bore holes was rotary wash boring and casings were used to provent bore holes wall from collapse. Ganeraly, 88.9mm (outer iameter) 75mm (inner dameter) casing (NW) was used for all the boreholes and 114mm {outer diameter) 100mm (inner dameter) casings (HW) were used when mazier samling was require. ‘Al disturbed and undisturbed samples were collected for visual examination and transported back to Stata Dil laboratory for storage and subsequent laboratory test. The termination depths of each bore hole are as specified and instructed by HEC. When rock Ie ‘encountered, rack coring was carried out Borehole logs are presented in (APPENDIX A). GEOGRETE SUN. BHD. 2.2 STANDARD PENETRATION TEST “The objective of Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is to determine the relatve density or ‘consistency (sfiness) ofthe sol and to obainciturb sol sample for visual logging and also for laboratory tet. SPT was cated out in accordance wit Britsh Standard Code of Practica B.S 1377-1980 “Detormination Method of Test for Soll for Cl Engineering Purposes". The ving assombly used consists of s6 tipping hammer of an approved design which permits {rae drop of hammer. ‘SPT was carted out at an interval 1.5m driving a split spoon of 60mm diameter into th soll by using the abovementioned hammer. The numbers of blows for tho nial 150mm was recorded as seating blows and the following numbers of blows for the next 300mm penetration is recorded as the N-valve (or blow count of the sol strata encountered. When a penetration resistance of 0 blows for 25mm penetration is encountered in the seating drive, the test value should be reported as N= 50/26mm, “Two examples ae: 2,36,7,10,19 wil ge N=42 and 10,12,35,16125mm will give N=60/100mm, 23 SOIL SAMPLING ‘Sol samples were collected inthe form of eisturbe or undisturbed samples, 2.3.1. Disturbed soll Sampiing Upon completing tbe SPT, disturbed samples were collected from the split spoon sampler ‘and stored in polyhene bag for visual examination and logging. All samples collected wore kept tthe ste camp before transported to laboratory for lab testing. (GEOGRETE SON. BHO. 2.32. Undleturbed Soil Sampling Undisturbed (UD) soll samples were taken in a metal steel tube of 0.5m long by employing hhydrauc thrust on thinwaled tube sampler as described in BS 5930 on a got cohesive sol ‘ayer. For noma crcumstancss, undisturbed samples ar taken each 2.5m (at depth 1.0m, 8.0m, 6.0m etc) or as instructed by HEC. (Once the sample was retioved out of the borehole, the UD tube was properly cleaned and labelled in accordance tothe UD number, borehole and its depth. Both ends ofthe tube was, ‘waxed and capped to prevent any moisture loss before it was transported to the laboratory for testing. Te UD number, depth and is recovery wore recorded inthe bora lo. 2.4 GROUND WATER MEASURING ‘The ground water lovel in bore hole was taken after compltion of work in the evening and belore commencement of boring inthe moming. The depth of the bore hole andthe casing (tfany) were measured and recorded at tho time of water lavel measurement 30 TESTING ‘The following laboratory tests wore conducted on selectod sol samples to determine the Physical properties of various sol types encountered inthe bore holes. The resis are as tached in (APPENDIX B) of this report. 3.41 MOISTURE CONTENT Moisture content test was carted out to determine the amount of water present ina soil ‘expressed as a percentage ofthe mass of dry soll. Standard Oven Diying Method was used {or determining moisture content. A drying temperature of 105 - 110 C in accordance to BS: 1877: Part: 1990, Test 3 for inorganic sol was used. For pealy and organic sols, a wer temperature range may be used accordingly with longer drying tines, The moisture content ‘ofa soll is expressed as a percentage o its dry mass: (GEOCRETE SON. BHO. Moisture Content = 22 ATTERBERG LIMIT ‘Aitetberg Limit Determination Tests were conducted in accordance to BS: 1977: Part 2 1990 Test 4 & 5. The Liquid Limit and Plastic Lit were determined to furnish baste for tho Classification and identiicaton of fine-grained cohesive soils. The liquid limit Is the ‘empirically established moisture content at which a sol passes from the quid state to the Plastic state, Variatons in the moisture content in a soll may have significant effect on is ‘shear strength, especialy on fine-grained sols “The Plastic Limit isthe emplcaly estabished moisture content at which sol becomes too dry 10 be plastic, Is used together wih the Ligue Limit fo Getermine the Massy inex hich when plotted agsinst the Ligud Limit on the plastcly chart provides a means of classifying cohesive sols. “The Plasticly Index isthe difference between the Liquid Limit and the Plastic Limit. The lastcly Indox isthe range of moisture content in which a sol ls pasts; the fer the eo, the greater the Plast index. 3.3. GRAIN SIZE ANALYSIS AND CLASSIFICATION ‘A parle size dlatibution analysis is a necessary classification test for sols, espocially ‘coaree sols, In that It prosents the relative portons of efron sizes of particles. From this it 's possible to determine whather the sol consists of predominanty gravel, sand, stor clay ‘8228 and, t limited extnt, which of theso size ranges is Ikely to contol the engineering properties ofthe sil Sieve analysis was caried out by preparing the samples by wet sieving to remove sit and Cay sized partles and followed by dry sieving of the remaining coarse material. This method covers the quantiaive determination of parle size cistrbuton in an essentially cohesloniess sol, down to fine sand size. The combined sit cay can be obtained by ference If the sol does rot contain particles retained on a 2 mm test sive insignificant {quantty, the hydrometer method shal be used. Hydrometer method combined with wet or dty sieving enable @ continuous parce size
