CATERING

SELF-HELP GROUP BUSINESS PLAN

FT232062_SEC 2_ ROHIT GUPTA

BUSINESS MODEL

• Catering is a business in which you provide food to remote locations to

serve people at parties, ceremonies, events, filming sites, and hospitals, etc.
The service can sometimes also include the provision of furniture, tables,
chairs, utensils, and crockery.

• If you are a person who wants to start a business that holds minimum risks,
takes a small team and a little investment, then catering is the right choice
for you. Besides, another good thing about this business is that it starts
yielding profits as soon as it is launched.
TRAINING & SKILL DEVELOPMENT
• We need to train the person about the day-to-day activity of catering services.
• We can also involve a person who is already part of any catering service
business which will be useful to kick-start the business, his/her experience
will help other members quickly learn the challenges of the business.
• To reduce the cost food can be prepared in the locality & transported to the
demand center where it will actually consume.
• One of the important skills in this business is Handling hot food & utensils and
serving the same with minimum food wastage.
CAPITAL MONEY

• Capital or seed money will not be an issue for starting the business.
• Most of the equipment can be taken in rent to reduce the initial capital
investment.
• We can start the business from our small saving money on small scale, once we
get the advance from our client for the order, we can also scale up our business.
• For this business model 2-3 people can start working on small delivery, in long
run we can hire people temporarily based on the size of an individual order.
• After 5-6 months of service, we can also invest money to purchase catering
utensils based on the capital available.
PRODUCTION

• Small orders can be prepared in the locality and delivered through local
transport such as Auto rickshaws or small food caring vans.
• For larger orders food can be prepared at the place provided by the client
to reduce transportation costs and serve the food at the best quality.
• Production of the food will be based on order value to minimize wastage.
• Raw materials such as vegetables and spices can be purchased from the
local market or neighbors in bulk to reduce the cost.
SALES & MARKETING

• Sale of the food mainly depends on the awareness of the business in the
local vicinity which can be increased by word of mouth.
• Once we will delivered food to any parties or functions we can get
subsequent orders from their reference.
• If we can maintain the quality and taste of food, we don’t need to invest any
amount for marketing, and people will start referring us.
• We will try to offer the minimum possible price to our customers to get
more deals during the initial periods.
COMPANY FINANCE

• The catering company business plan should cover all aspects such as
startup expenses, market analysis, sales strategy, personnel plan, and an
extensive financial plan for the business.
• Proper bookkeeping of the transaction will be an important part.
• Receivable & payable policy should insure the availability of cash for
regular operations.
• We can also take a 30% advance payment to insure the proper function &
reduce the cash shortage for operating activities.
