• Drifts & Displacement:
Results obtained showed that the maximum elastic drift is Ds = 1 cm in the X direction and Ds =
1.7cm in the Y direction under service load combinations.
The corresponding inelastic drift: Dm = 0.7 R Ds = 0.7 x 5.5 x 1.7 = 6.5 cm.
The maximum allowable limits for the inelastic drift permitted by the UBC code is : (taking into
account the lowest story height of the project= 355cm
Da = 0.02 h = 0.02* 330 cm = 6.6 cm > Dm. OK
1. Raft foundation
The raft foundation was designed with a thickness of 40cm. The value
of subgrade modulus used in the design 36000 kN/m3. Calculated using m3
(joseph Bowles formula) =
Qa x 120= 300x120= 36000 kN/m3.
• Bearing Capacity:
✓ All values under service load combinations are less than the soil allowable bearing capacity
300 kPa.
✓ Displacement:
✓ All values under service load combinations are less than 2.5cm (average allowable value for
settlement in rafts)
