Preface

Reconstruction of the criminal events based on evidence is a subject that appears on

TV and in books very often. How often you can see genius detective who will read
crime scene like a book and will give detailed presentation what really happen? But
how does it look like in the real world. How experts from this field reach their
conclusions? What techniques or terminology they are using? And what is the most
important: is this method useful or is it just a “junk science”? What kind of mistakes
experts can made? This book will try to answer those and other question.

Acknowledgements

First of all, I want to thank my great friend and mentor Stuart H. James. He was the
person who introduced me to the BPA, and I will be thankful for that for the rest of
my life. Thank you Stuart! Furthermore I want to acknowledge the support and
encouragement that we received throughout my years of research on bloodstain
pattern analysis from University of Warsaw (Faculty of Law & Administration and
the Centre for Forensic Sciences), prof dr hab. Piotr Girdwoyń, prof dr hab.
Tadeusz Tomaszewski, dr hab. Kacper Gradoń.
Also, I want to thank National Science Centre (NCN), Poland for being a Prime
Investigator for “PRELUDIUM 16” research project, ref. no UMO-2018/31/N/HS5/
01031. Without this support, one of the chapters would be much shorter and
shallow.
I want to give huge thanks to my friend Rafał Starosielec for support, numerous
comments and a great help as an english corrector with this book.
Furthermore, I want to thank dr hab. Andrzej Witowski, dr Michał Dobrowolski,
Piotr Słowinski. Your numerous kind words about my research and almost
unlimited time for scientific discussions are precious.
Last but not least I'm sending my full regards to my Family, daughter Debra, son
Hugo and wife Kasia for their patience and understanding. Without you, this book
would not be possible. Thank you for being such a great inspiration for improving
myself. I love you all.
