I. Objectives: at the end of the 60-minute lesson, the grade 8 students will be able to:
A. Identify the nail care tools and materials.
B. State the importance of knowing tools and materials in Nail Care Services.
C. Perform the different tasks using their knowledge in Nail Care Services.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Nail Care Tools and Materials and its uses.
B. Concepts:
a. Tools- are the articles used in any nail care service which are durable or
permanent and are hand-held. Tools are also referred as implements.
b. Materials- are the cosmetics and supplies that are consumed and should
be replaced from time to time. They are also called consumables.

So now let us discuss first the tools.

I have here some tools used in nail care services.
We have here the nail file. (show the tool)

In using the nail file, you must hold the file firmly in the right
or left hand with the thumb underneath it for support and
other four fingers on its upper surface.

Next one is? (show the tool) Nail Cutter!

Correct! When do we use this tool? Nail cutter is used to cut the nails into short Maam.

In using nail cutter, you must hold clippers with cutting edges
downward between thumb, index and middle finger, press
clipper handles by squeezing them together and remove
excess nail length.

Another one is? (show the tool) Cuticle Nail Pusher Maam.

Correct! Cuticle Nail Pusher is a tool used to push back and

loosen the cuticles.
What is the purpose of Cuticle Nail Pusher?

Good.

The dull spade side of this tool is used to push back and
loosen the cuticles. Keep cuticles moist using the cuticle
remover while working. Use the cuticle pusher in a flat
position to remove dead cuticle adhering to the nail without
scratching the nail plate.

Another tool, this one is called? (show the tool) Nail Brush Maam. It is used to clean dirt and
cosmetic residue from the nail surface and skin

All you need is to insert the ring finger and pinky in the nail
brush handle and brush the nails with a downward motion
from the base to the fingertips to clean the nails and fingers.

Next one is? (show the tool) Cuticle Nipper Maam .

Very good. How this tool does works? It is a tool to cut cuticles Maam .

Correct. Pick up the cuticle nipper b the handles and turn the
cutting edges towards you; place the bent tip of the index
finger over the top of the shank. Place the thumb on the side
of the handle and the remaining fingers over the opposite
handle. Now let’s discuss the materials used in the nail care
services.

Very good. How can we use Nail Polish? To decorate the nails, Maam.

Excellent! It is a lacquer applied on fingernails and toenails to

decorate and/or protect the nail plate.

The next material is called? (show the picture of the Base coat Maam. It is a clear layer of polish applied
materials) to the nail plate before the application of colored
polish to smoothen surface for color and promote
healthier nails.

Correct! How about this material? (show the picture of the Cotton Maam. It is a soft white downy fiber for
materials) dubbing or cleaning the nails.

Very good.

What material should we use to remove cuticles? Cuticle Remover Maam.

Correct! It is a liquid used to soften nail cuticles and prepare

them to be cut. Lastly, the nail polish remover (acetone) is an
organic solvent used to dissolve old polish on nails.

Abstraction
Now, we will have a game. I prepared a Beauty box and
music. When I play the music, you need to shout first the
phrase “IPASA MO ANG BEAUTY KO” before you pass the
beauty box to your seatmate. If the music stopped, the one
who holds the Beauty box will get a question inside. After
you get it, kindly give the question to me because I am the
