1 Describe about the Infrastructure (labs, hostel rooms, food, library etc.) of NIT
Rourkela
ANS. NIT Rourkela is a 1024 acer campus with 22 departments. Lecture avenue ,
encompassed by the lush green LA lawns, has been home to almost all the NITR students for
at least a year. The classrooms were given an average rating of 3.5/5 by the NITR populace.
The ventilation system in LA was given a measly 2.5, a number which in itself sounds
suffocating. the BWC ( Buildings and Works Committe ) has sanctioned 32 ACs to be installed
in LA 1. The NITR junta seems satisfied with the lighting and maintenance of LA giving them
both a moderate 3.5. Around 66.8% of the students believed that the number of washrooms
was sufficient while the rest disagreed. One thing unanimously agreed was that the quality
of these washrooms was pretty terrible.  The two cultural hubs at NITR , SAC and BBA,
having their own buildings. Hostels are probably the most important buildings on the
campus as students spend the majority of their time in them. The survey shows us that the
major problems students face is related to the size of the rooms, bathroom conditions and
hygiene issues. There are currently seven boys hostels (having 2416 single seater
and 2286 double seaters), two girls hostel (having 435 single seaters, 718 double seaters
and 177 triple seaters) and one hostel for married students (145 rooms). The picturesque
main building has somewhat become synonymous with the image of NITR. This is quite
alarming as these are necessities and not some undeserved luxury. Golden Jubilee
Building- The enormous structure, which in itself is something that NITR can proudly boast
of has not seen the end of its construction. The doppelganger of LA 1 and Mechanical
sciences department stand complete in their respective locations. There are three new
faculty residential buildings currently being constructed. The major projects include: A new
girls hostel with a capacity of around 600. The building is expected to have nine floors in
total.
