The document is a lesson plan on greenhouses for grade 9 science students. It includes objectives to explain how energy from the sun enters the atmosphere and illustrate how human activities affect the atmosphere. Students will learn about the greenhouse effect by describing and demonstrating the importance of greenhouses. The lesson will involve eliciting what greenhouses are for and why they are important, engaging students with a picture, having them explore how greenhouses work through diagrams, and evaluating their understanding with multiple choice questions about the greenhouse effect and gases in the atmosphere.

Standards that occur in the atmosphere.
B. Performance The learners should be able to participate in activities on how a greenhouse
Standards works.
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. Explain how energy from the sun enters the atmosphere. C. Learning 2. Illustrate how some human activities affect the atmosphere. Competencies/ Objectives Specific objectives: 1. Describe a greenhouse. 2. Demonstrate the importance of a greenhouse.
II. CONTENT GREENHOUSE EFFECT
A greenhouse is also known as a glass-house or hothouse where plants, flowers, and vegetables are grown. Greenhouse warms up during the day because of the penetration of sun’s rays that provides heat to plants and vegetables inside. This structure also ensures that crops are shielded from Key ideas: excessive cold and extreme heat of the sun because it is made up with glass walls and a glass roof. This the reason why, greenhouse is a suitable place for growing plants. This mechanism is also similar to the Earth’s ability to trap heat from the sun. IV. PROCEDURES 1. What is the purpose of a greenhouse? ELICIT 2. Why is a greenhouse important? 3. What will happen if a greenhouse didn’t exist? ENGAGE
Explain what is on the picture.
EXPLORE Draw a diagram on how greenhouses work.
Questions to ponder: EXPLAIN 1. What is the significance of a greenhouse to the atmosphere? 2. What happens if greenhouses don’t exist?
EVALUATE Multiple choice:
1. The atmosphere is a ________. a. Absorbed by greenhouses gases. b. Passes out of the atmosphere. c. Water vapor d. Mixture of gases 2. What is it about Earth that allows us to survive here and not any other planets? a. Right distance from the Sun b. Long distance from the Sun c. Near distance from the Sun d. All of the above. 3. How can the greenhouse maintain the temperature of the Earth? a. CO2 present b. Trapping heat c. Releasing heat d. Adding heat 4. What do you think will happen if greenhouse don’t exist? a. The temperature of the Earth will be warmer. b. The temperature of the Earth will be cooler. c. The temperature of the Earth will be maintained. d. All of the above. 5. The outer space is ______. a. Cold b. Warm c. Windy d. Sunny
Describe the natural gases found in our greenhouse.
EXTEND What are the effects of these gases in our atmosphere?
