CONSTITUTIONS AND REPUBLIC ACTS

I. Course Outcome : CO1: Describe the basic provision of the NSTP Program and
its main objectives.
I. Learning Outcome/s : LO1.2. Recall significant events on the history of NSTP in
the purview of national security and development through
specific provisions in the Philippine Constitution (RA 7077,
Commonwealth Act No. 1 of 1935 and RA 9163 and its IRR.

III. Introduction/Outline : In this session, you will be tasked to recall significant
events on the history of NSTP:

Commonwealth Act No. 1 of 1935 and RA 9163
 Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

Below are the key concepts for reading. Details of these


concepts are discussed further in the workbook.

National Service Training Program (NSTP)

National security is the requirement to maintain the survival of the state through the use of
economic power, diplomacy, power projection and political power.

National security or national defence is the security and defence of a nation state, including
its citizens, economy, and institutions, which is regarded as a duty of government.

The Constitution of the Philippines (Saligang Batas ng Pilipinas or Konstitusyon ng


Pilipinas) is the constitution or supreme law of the Republic of the Philippines.

Republic Act No. 7077, also known as the Citizen's Armed Force Act or Reservist Law of
1991

Commonwealth Act No. 1 or The National Defense Act of 1935 was passed by the
Philippine National Assembly on December 21, 1935.
Republic act no. 9163 is an act establishing the National Service Training Program (NSTP)
for the tertiary level students,
