Objective: APECS (Apex Predators, Ecosystems, and Community Sustainability) -
Examining effects of sea otter reintroduction on eelgrass ecosystems and commercial
fisheries in southern Southeast Alaska at sites along a sea otter population density
gradient.
● Beach seining and handling of nearshore Southeast Alaskan fish
● Setting crab pots, retrieving crab pots, and handling of Southeast Alaskan crabs
● Boat based surveys to enumerate sea otter populations
● Handling and identifying recently deceased clams onshore as a measure of sea
otter presence
Objective: Collecting data for the NSF funded seagrass wasting disease project spanning
the Pacific coast and for the APECS seagrass bed monitoring project.
