1. Given the available media that we now have in the world, what are its roles and functions
in a democratic society?
2. In what way does media affect your life (personal, professional, academic, social,
others)?
3. Evolution of media is divided into: (Give the different ages included in the evolution of
media. Don’t forget to give a short description at each age.)

1. The role of Media in today’s era is very crucial knowing that for every action we make,
we make Media involved. A world without media nowadays would be a life without
meaning. Media brings everything in our life like news and entertainment. We also use
Media to communicate with other people especially those who are far away from us. This
way, it would be much quicker and efficient rather than on the traditional way of
communication. Media gives life to this world full of flaws. It makes us forget about the
problems that we are currently facing. Even though Media has many benefits, it also has
disadvantages. Media can make a person stressful. Through Cyberbullying, Media can
also take a person’s life. Using media wrong is like turning the world into a dangerous
one. Wars can emerge through the improper use of media leading to the death of many
innocent people. That is why we must use media right and therefore use it to destroy
diversity in our society.
2. As a student and a human being living in this world, Media have become a major part of
honing who I am today. Media helped me through my problems because of its
entertainment aspect. It also helped me to become more mature in handling my problems.
Through Social Media platforms I’ve been able to share my thoughts to someone and also
It enabled me to communicate with my loved ones who are far away from me. As a
human being, Media has been a great source of information from all around the world. It
educated me on the problems of today’s society and helped me to become a more
responsible individual.
3. Pre-Industrial Age
- At this point, People living in this time discovered fire, developed paper from
plants and forged weapons and tools with various hard objects. Life in this era is
hard because Technology has not emerged yet. Media in this era is to be found on
stone and clay tablets and also on cave paintings.
Industrial Age
- People during this time have technology yet not as complex as we have today. It
improved a lot when compared to the pre-industrial age. Media in this time is
through the telephone, typewriter, telegraph, newspapers and Motion Pictures.
Electronic Age
- Technology is changing at this point compared to the two previous eras. This age
is completely different. Although it uses some media features from the two
previous times, it enables people to communicate more efficiently and also to get
news more freely. Media in this era involves the use of computers, radios and
electronic devices.
Information Age
Activity 3: Lesson 4

- This is the era we live today. Compared to the three previous eras, this one is the
most advanced of them all. The Internet has become one of the major factors why
this era is considered the most convenient and efficient. Information can be
attained in just one click. Social Media platforms have become a trend knowing
that it provides not only information but also entertainment.
