Lemons have been cultivated for over 1,500 years. Lemonade originated in Egypt and the version we know today was first made in Paris in 1630. Lemonade is made with lemon juice, sugar, water and optionally ice cubes. It is a refreshing drink on hot summer days partly because sour drinks stimulate saliva production. Lemonade stands run by children have been popular for over a hundred years.
