Class 4 Science: (Lesson details for Final exams)

Syllabus: Chapter 13 and 15

Chapter: 13 (The Weather)
Fill in the blanks: (Book exercise B, page 101)
1. If a cloud reaches very cold air, the droplets of water turn into ice crystals.
2. When the temperature drops below 0 degree Celsius, water vapour freezes and forms frost.
3. If ice crystals do not melt, they fall as hailstones or snowflakes.
4. Fog occurs when evaporation takes place and clouds form close to the ground.
5. In some hot places the atmosphere is very humid; the atmosphere contains a lot of moisture.
6. Rain water that seeps into the ground becomes filtered.

True False: (Book exercise A, page 101)

1. Mist is thicker than fog. (F)
2. The atmosphere gets denser the higher you go. (F)
3. No two snowflakes are the same. (T)
4. Humidity is the amount of water vapour in the air. (T)
5. Stagnant water is clean. (F)

Question Answer:
1. How do hailstones and snowflakes fall?
Ans: If a cloud reaches very cold air, the water droplets in it turn into ice crystals. If the crystals do not melt,
they fall as hailstones and snowflakes.
2. What is humidity?
Ans: The amount of water vapour in air is called humidity. In humid places, your sweat cannot evaporate so
your skin feels sticky.
3. How does dirty rain water become clean?
Ans: Rain water seeps into the ground and is filtered.
4. Why is stagnant water harmful?
Ans: Stagnant water contains harmful germs and mosquitoes can also breed in it.

Matching:
1. Sunshine heats up water and makes it – evaporate.
2. Water becomes invisible – water vapour.
3. The water vapour rises up into the – atmosphere.
4. Droplets group together and form – clouds.
5. The droplets becomes bigger and fall as – rain.
Name the following:
1. Clouds formed due to tiny water droplets, very close to the ground – Fog.
2. Lighter than fog – Mist.
3. Drops of water that collects on things during the night – Dew.
4. When water freezes due to a temperature drop – Frost.

Chapter: 15 (The Earth in space)

Fill in the blanks: (Book exercise B, page 113)
1. The line that runs east/west along the middle of the earth is called the equator.
2. Half of the Earth from the equator downwards is called the Southern Hemisphere.
3. The line running along the centre of the Earth from the north to south is called the axis.
4. The Earth is rotating on its axis.
5. The four seasons in a year are: winter, spring, summer and autumn.

True False: (Book exercise A, page 113)

1. The earth takes 364 days to revolve around the sun. (F)
2. The Earth spins on its axis. (T)
3. The rotation and revolution of the Earth is what causes seasons. (F)
4. The equator is an imaginary line running between the north and south pole. (F)
5. The Earth is divided by its axis into two hemispheres. (F)
6. The Earth rotates from east to west. (T)

Question Answer:
1. What is the axis?
Ans: The axis is an imaginary line running through the center of the earth, from the north pole to the south
pole. The earth rotates on its axis.
2. What is the equator?
Ans: The equator divides the Earth into two halves. They are the northern and southern hemispheres.
3. What causes seasons?
Ans: The revolution of the Earth around the sun causes seasons.
4. What causes day and night?
Ans: Rotation around the sun causes day and night.
