Microcontroller Lab Project

The document describes a student project to build a water level controller using a 8051 microcontroller. The controller will monitor the water level in a tank using sensors and switch a motor on or off to fill the tank. When the water level is low, the motor will turn on and an LCD will display that the tank is empty. When full, the motor will turn off and the display will show the tank is full. The project aims to provide a simple, efficient solution for monitoring water levels using low-cost electronic components like sensors, a microcontroller, relay and LCD display.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to design a water controller than can monitor the level of water in the
water tank and switch the motor ON or OFF based of the water level. this helps save water and
energy.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

• Water is the conductor electricity. We use this principle to display messages on

microcontroller, which are dipped in water, they detect electricity and subsequently send
signal to the microcontroller indicating the level of water present in the tank and conveying
whether the motor should be switched on or off.
• When water level in the tank is low the motor is automatically switched on to fill the tank
with the water and also subsequently display the message that the tank is empty on the lcd
display.
• When water in the tank is filled to its maximum the motor is switched off automatically and
the lcd displays the message indicating that the tank is full.

COMPONENTS REQUIRED
• 8051
• 5 x 10kR resistors
• 1 x relay
• 1 x dc motor pump
• 1 x alternator
• 2 x 1nF capacitors
• 1 x LCD
• 1 x 100R resistor
• 1 x generic electrolyte capacitor
• 1 x generic non-electrolyte capacitor
• 5 x buttons

CONCLUSION
• The project aimed to provide a simple and efficient solution for monitoring water levels in a
tank or reservoir. The project will be implemented using a 8051, a set of sensors, and some
basic electronic components.
• The project will be tested under various conditions and its accuracy and reliability will be
accessed. The project has several benefits, including its low cost, simplicity, and ease of use.
It can be used in a variety of applications, such as agriculture, water management, and
industrial processes.
