ACCENTURETECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE

1 The topic of the application


Waste Management & Recycle Solution

You will need to develop a solution that aims to reduce waste and help people
understand how to manage waste and recycle, but also clean areas that have garbage
to avoid landfill buildup. The apps target is especially made from students and people
that spend their time in universities campuses. The solution will be primary developed
for student most visited areas (Politehnica University, University of Bucharest and
University of Economical Studies + their campuses) but afterwards it should be used
by all people living in Bucharest and surroundings.

The topic can be extended as much as possible; the boundaries are set only by your
creativity. Therefore, feel free to make this app as nice as possible. Try to come up with
as many ideas you can.

2 Detailed requirements*
Below is a summary list of requirements that you and your team should implement:
1. A user should be able to login into the application. This can be done using
regular account or Facebook/ Google account or by creating new account.
Users should be able to create:
- volunteers’ profiles (people who volunteer to recycle)
- collector profiles (NGOs, businesses or institutions who support waste
management/ recycling)
- administrator profile (people who manage the app).
An already approved administrator should approve new users.
2. A user should be able to find useful information and insights about waste
management and recycle.
3. A user should see locations where they can recycle on the map.
4. A user should be able to see or mark areas that need cleaning/ waste collection.
5. A user should be able to add cleaning/ waste collection events and invite other
users to help.
6. A user should be able to see a calendar with the cleaning/ collection events
already scheduled, to volunteer for one of the already planned events or to
create new ones.
*Optional - Not more than 1 collection event/ day should be added.
*Optional - A user should be able to select the places he wants to clean
and mark them on the map as dirty/ clean.
7. The user should be able to add/invite other users as buddies/ friends/ favorites
after they participated in a collection event together.
8. The user should be able to share the cleaning/ collection events on social media,
to raise awareness or gather volunteers.
9. Through the app the citizens should be connected with authorities, companies
and NGOs etc., which are involved in waste management. (i.e. Button for
emails/call/ information)
10. Users should be able to upload photos/ videos of areas before and after
cleaning/ collection events.
11. Users can receive badges after creating or volunteering an event.

*Optional - Implementing a gamification idea in the app, so that it will encourage


people to do more recycling and keep areas clean. This is where you have the chance
to use your creativity! 😊

3 Judging of the Teams


At the end of the 24 hours of coding, at least one member of the team must be present
and able to provide proof of solving the task in a 5-minute (3” presenting+ 2” questions)
presentation (pitch).
The main criteria based on which the winners will be designated are the following:

▪ respecting the given theme;


▪ covering the mandatory requirements given in the theme’s query;
▪ covering the optional requirements given in the theme’s query;
▪ creativity/ originality in approaching the theme;
▪ graphic design of the application.
4 Mentorship
Ask questions to more experienced participants and mentors. This is especially useful
if you encounter road-blocks but can be equally important for a team to improve or
validate a certain route for solving a problem.
