INTERVIEWING TIPS FOR SUCCESS

 Speak, dress, and act in a way that reflects you at your best. How you present yourself
(professional attire, body language, etc.) and how you communicate is extremely important.

 Rehearse answers to common interview questions. Practice answering common questions, so

you are more concise and confident when answering.

 Provide relevant examples. As you prepare for an interview, print the job description and
qualifications and think about times you’ve demonstrated that skill.

 Be prepared to think on your feet. You may be asked a question that surprises you. Don't get
frustrated. Pause briefly to gather your thoughts and respond with confidence.

 Keep in touch after the interview. Take time to write a thank you note or email to the
interviewer and share again your interest in the position.

 Bring extra copies of your resume. Print copies of your resume to give the interviewer(s) and
use as a reference during your interview.

Practice common interview questions such as:

 Tell me about yourself….

 Why are you interested in this job? What kind of position are you looking for?
 Are you familiar with the company? Why are you interested in working here?
 What’s your experience related to this position? How are you a good fit for this position?
 What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
 What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

Make your first impression a good one by:

 Wearing business attire.

 Greeting your interviewer with a firm handshake and introducing yourself.
 Demonstrating confidence.
 Using eye contact and smiling.

Answer all interview questions effectively:

 Listen to the question carefully; ask for clarification if needed.

 Be prepared to share examples.
 Answer concisely.
 Do not share your personal life; keep the answers professional.
 Ask thoughtful questions to the interviewer.
Leave the interview on a good note:

 Thank the interviewer for taking the time to meet with you.
 Ask for a business card or email address so you know how to contact the interviewer.
 Send a thank you note or email.
