GETTER everyone and Happy Chinese New year! I wish you happy , prosperity, and
healthy.

SPECIFIC To inform about Chinese New Year in Malaysia.

PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION Ok, let me introduce myself. I am Muhammad Firdaus bin Zuhairi. Today,
I’m going to talk about Chinese New Year in Malaysia. I divided my speech
into 3 parts. First, I will give you what Chinese New Year is. Second ,What
is the Lunar New Year?. And, the last one is Chinese New Year do’s and
dont’s.

MAIN POINT 1 Let’s get started talking about what Chinese New Year is.

SUB-POINT 1 Chinese New Year is one of the most important traditional holidays in
China. Chinese New Year is also known as the Lunar New Year and it is the
longest celebration in the Chinese calendar. Chinese New Year helps bring
family together. It is the day where everyone stop working and everyone
travel back home where all the family members come together for an
annual reunion and dinner. This gathering and reunion help build family
relationships and family bonding.

MAIN POINT 2 Furthermore, What is the Lunar New Year?. Lunar New Year falls this year
on Sunday, January 22, 2023, kicking off the Year of the Rabbit .

SUB-POINT 2 Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning
of a new year on the lunisolar calendar it is also widely celebrated in South
Korea, Tibet, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and places with
large Chinese populations. As its name suggests, the date of the lunar new
year depends on the phase of the moon and varies from year to year. Each
year in the lunar calendar is named one of the 12 animals in the Chinese
zodiac, which are derived from ancient Chinese folklore. Repeating in a
rotating basis, these animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake,
horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.

SUB-POINT 3 -DO wear red on both the outside and inside. Red is a lucky colour in
Chinese culture, symbolising good luck and success. And especially when
people are participating in games such as mahjong, wearing red
underwear is always a plus! .This is one of the most important Chinese
New Year traditions you need to keep in mind.
-Next, DO give away loads of mandarin oranges. There are an array of
Chinese New Year foods and snacks that you should get your hands on
during the holiday. In Cantonese, mandarin orange is the word “gold” (金)
and “luck” . So, it’s part of the tradition that people bring along mandarin
oranges while visiting others’ family and hand them out as a sign of
sharing good fortune.
-While for Chinese New Year don’t is DON’T speak about death. Growing
up, our grandparents always shushed us when we accidentally spilled the
word “dead” or “ghost”, as it invites bad luck and misfortune to the
individual or even the family. So, if you don’t want any unfortunate events
to happen to you or your loved ones, remember this Chinese New Year
tradition.
