Investigating is significant in our everyday activities. It is the result of a thinking process


that involves learners in questioning techniques or models. Over the years, many experts have
given their own definitions of research. Here’s how it is defined in a nutshell.

Also, there are certain characteristics of research which you need to ponder on as a
prerequisite for this endeavor. Here they are:

Characteristics of Research
1. Empirical. Research is based on direct experience or observation by the researcher.
2. Logical. Research is based on valid procedures and principles.
3. Cyclical. Research is a cyclical process because it starts with a problem and ends
with a problem.
4. Analytical. Research utilizes proven analytical procedures in gathering the data,
whether historical, descriptive, and experimental and case study.
5. Critical. Research exhibits careful and precise judgment.
6. Methodical. Research is conducted in a methodical manner without bias using
systematic method and procedures.
7. Replicability. The research design and procedures are replicated or repeated to
enable the researcher to arrive at valid and conclusive results.

Task No. 3 – Let’s Go Further!

A. Look for one (1) published research aligned to your specialization (e.g. STEM, ABM, HUMSS,
etc.). Then, analyze it and answer the following questions:

o What is the research all about?


o What are the processes used in the research study?

B. Reflect on your work. What do you think is the importance of research? Answer this question
by crafting a slogan as regards the impact of research in your daily life as a learner. Here’s a
rubric to guide you while doing this activity.
