2. External Security: Management of security against aggression by external states and non-state actors.
3. National Security (India’s Security): National Security, in a more traditional sense, refers to the
preservation of the state, its territorial integrity, political institutions, and national sovereignty from
physical threats. But in the modern times the definitions have broadened to include Economic,
Technology driven and Biological threats.
4. Border Management: It is an integral approach towards borders in which along with security
enhancement, infrastructure & human development is undertaken.
5. Naxalism: It is a state of terror, panic and a fear psychosis created by an individual or a group of
people in order to force, coerce or blackmail the authorities, using violent methods to accept their demand
or to attain political religious or ideological goals
6. Infiltration: A technique of tactical movement by small forces over land, air, or water through an area
or territory occupied by friendly forces or an enemy, or in the close vicinity of enemy positions.
7. Insurgency: It is a violent, armed rebellion against a constituted authority waged by small, lightly
armed bands when those taking part in the rebellion are not recognized as belligerents.
8. Militancy: It is a state or condition which experiences the use of violence, being combative or
predisposed to fight by championing a cause or belief.
9. Extremism: It is a state wherein a person or an organisation holds extreme political or religious views.
10. Terrorism: It is the planned, organized and systematic use of violence as a means of coercion for
political, religious or ideological purposes.
12. Organised Crime: Organized Crime could be described as the activities of any group or a
conglomeration of groups functioning as an organized network, involving multiple actors, institutions and
activities at multiple levels all aimed at bending, manipulating or violating the laws of the land, for
creating money and surviving on fear and corruption.
13. Cyber Security: It is the protection of computer systems and networks from information disclosure,
theft of or damage to their hardware, software, or electronic data, as well as from the disruption or
misdirection of the services they provide.
14. Cyber Crime: Any unlawful act where computer or communication device or computer network is
used to commit or facilitate the commission of crime.
15. Cyber warfare: When a nation-state or international organization attacks and attempts to damage
another nation’s computers or information networks through, for example, computer viruses or denial-of-
service attacks.
16. Cyber terrorism: It can be also defined as the intentional use of computers, networks, and public
internet to cause destruction and harm for personal objectives.
17. Disaster Management: It is defined as a continuous and integrated process of planning, organising,
coordinating and implementing measures necessary to prevent the danger or threat of a disaster;
mitigating or reducing the risk of a disaster or its consequences; capacity-building; preparedness to deal
with a disaster; prompt responses to a disaster; assessing the severity or magnitude of a disaster;
evacuation, rescue or relief; and rehabilitation and reconstruction.
