Auto Upgradation Option in Indian Railways

Indian Railways offers an auto-upgradation option for passengers with waitlisted tickets, where if a confirmed ticket holder cancels, the next waitlisted passenger may be automatically upgraded to a higher class or berth without extra charges if available. However, auto-upgradation is not guaranteed and passengers who are upgraded may not be able to claim fare differences if not upgraded.

AUTO UPGRADATION OPTION IN INDIAN RAILWAYS

Auto Upgradation is an option provided by Indian Railways to passengers with

waitlisted tickets. In case a confirmed ticket holder cancels their ticket, the system
automatically upgrades the next waitlisted passenger to a higher class or berth,
subject to availability. This is done automatically by the system without any
additional charges to the passenger.

However, it is important to note that auto-upgradation is subject to availability

and cannot be guaranteed. Additionally, passengers who have opted for auto-
upgradation may not be able to claim a refund for the difference in fare between
the lower and higher class/berth, even if they do not get upgraded.
