0 t1 t 2 t3 t

If t1 = 0.06 seconds, t2 = 0.10 sec. and t3 = 0.12 sec. and N1=200, N2=500 calculate the induced
voltages v1 and v2 during the three time intervals shown above.

The induced EMF ¿ N
dt

Firstly, we need to find the interval 0 to t1 .

d φ 1 0.009 0.009
= =
dt t1 0.06

d φ1 200∗0.009
Now: V 1(0−t )=N 1 = =200∗0.15=30 V
1
d t1 0.06

d φ1 500∗0.009
V 2(0−t )=N 2 = =500∗0.15=75 V
1
d t1 0.06

Secondly for the interval t 1 ¿ t 2 , the flux become 0 , also V 1∧V 2 becomes 0 .

Thirdly, for interval t2 ¿ t 3

d φ 3 0−0.009 −0.009 −0.009

= = =
dt t 3−t 2 0.12−0.1 0.02

Now:

d φ3 −0.009
V 1(t −t )=N 1
2 3
dt

=200∗(−0.45 )=−90 V

d φ3 −0.009
V 2(t −t )=N 2
2 3
dt
=500∗
0.02( )
=500∗(−0.45 )=−225 V

c. The maximum core flux assuming E = V = 120V (ignore primary resistance and
reactance drop)
d. Rc and Xm assuming E = V = 120V (ignore primary resistance and reactance drop),
assume I1 = 1.4 A is measured during a no-load test.

a) The conductor loss in the primary:

2 2
I 1 R1=1.4 ∗0.25 Ω=1.96∗0.25=0.49 W

b) The core loss (Pc):

Pc =P¿ −0.49 W =80W −0.49 W =79.5W

c) The maximum core flux assuming E = V = 120V (ignore primary resistance and reactance drop):
E = V = 120V
E=4.44 f φm N 1
Here,
N 1=480
f =60 Hz
E=120 V

So,

φm = = =0.9384 m Wb
4.44∗60∗480 127872

φm =0.9384 m Wb

d) Rc and Xm assuming E = V = 120V (ignore primary resistance and reactance drop), assume I 1 =
