Activity 8.2- The Miniscule School Curriculum: The Lesson, A Closer Look

Resource Teacher: ______________ Teacher’s signature: _______________ School: ___________

Grade/Year Level: ______________ Subject Area: _________________ Date: ______________

This activity requires a full lesson observation from Motivation to Assessment.

Procedure:

1. Secure permit to observe one complete lesson in a particular subject, in a particular grade year level.

2. Keep a close watch on the different components of the miniscule curriculum: the lesson.

3. Follow the three major components of a curriculum (planning, implementing, and

evaluating/assessing). Observe and record your observation.

Here’s a transcript of my observation:

A. Planning

I have made a copy of the lesson plan of my resource teacher.

a. the lesson objective is that to identify the different kind of speech.

b. The procedure or method that the teacher will use to implement the plan is through the pictogram.

test and by asking students a sample sentence regarding the three modals.

c. Get pieces of evidence. The images show that the teacher is executing his lesson plan.

ANALYZE!

Write a paragraph based on the data you gathered using these key questions.

1. How does the teacher whom you observed compare to the ideal characteristics or competencies of
global quality teachers?

•The teacher whom I observed is very competitive. I can see and feel it because she really tried her best
to teach her students to the best of her ability. She really guides her students in order for them to cope

• Yes, the teacher followed her lesson plan accordingly. It was so organized that the learners are
being actively participating to the class because it is very catchy from the start.
3. Can you describe the disposition of the teacher after the lesson was taught? Happy and eager?
Contented? No reactions at all.

• The teacher looks satisfied, happy and contented. Although, their activity is not don, but she still
looks happy because she may conclude that the students understand their lesson.

REFLECT

Based on your observations and tasks in Activity 2 how will you prepare your lesson plan? Make a short
paragraph on the topic.

-Constructing a lesson plan is really hard. If you construct, your imagination is in action also. Pretending
that you are in the class already. But reality happens in the classroom and it is a big different. You
imagine, but sadly, reality hits you. This is a fact in preparing a lesson plan. This is not just a merely
lesson plan. And so, in preparing one, I should plan on what are we going to do though the
competencies are already given. Also, on how am I going to achieve the set objectives. In planning, I
should evaluate the lesson plan I prepared to meet the goals.

Activity 8.3- Constructive Alignment of the Components of a Lesson Plan

Resource Teacher: ______________ Teacher’s signature: _______________ School: ___________

Grade/Year Level: ______________ Subject Area: _________________ Date: ______________

OBSERVE

Using the diagram below fill up the component parts of a lesson plan

I. Title of the Lesson: Different kind of speech

II. Subject Area: English

III. Grade level: 7

ANALYZE

Answer the following questions based on the diagram.

1. Are the three components constructively aligned? Explain.

-Yes, it started from what is likely easy to the difficult level. It is a way of developing one’s skills.

2. Will the outcomes be achieved with the teaching methods used? Why?

-Yes, because it is a step-by-step method not just for the high achievers but also to the low achievers.

3. What component would tell if the outcomes have been achieved?

-The learners output.

REFLECT

What lessons have you learned in developing or writing a lesson plan?

-The lesson I learned in developing or writing a lesson plan is to consider the classroom setup. It is a big
deal for it help the students to focus on the lesson – no matter how interesting your lesson and how
prepare you are if the classroom set-up is not encouraging, then there’s no reason for them to listen and
participate.

2. What value will it give to the teacher if the three components are aligned?

• The value of success will be gained by teacher if the three components are aligned together.
