Step 1: Select Working Unit and generate the Text readable for exporting
Click the File Menu > Export. Select Perform3D Text file. Save this text file in a
designated folder.
NOTE: When exporting, the model should be first run for gravity load analysis.
Provide the structure’s information and select desired working units. Then, select
the minimum spacing between nodes. Browse to select the desired location for
saving structure. Press OK.
Select Column and specify group name (see figure, in this case group name is
Columns). Press OK.
Select Shear walls and specify group name (see figure, in this case group name is
RC walls). Press OK.
Select Import .
To import frame members, choose the element group as Columns. Browse to select
the export file developed from ETABS in Step 1. Specify the length units. Skip first 3
lines containing structure information. Check the Reads nodes as well as elements
option, then press Test.
To import RC walls, choose element group as RC walls. Browse to select the export
file developed from ETABS in Step 1. Specify the length units. Skip first 3845 lines
containing the information of the frame members. Check the Reads nodes as well
as elements option Select node sequence. Press Test.
Hint to check number lines skip: Paste the data of export file in excel sheet to see
how many lines should be skipped for RC walls.
Beams and columns are imported in the element group Columns in Step 2-4. To
separate them in different groups, make new element group Beams by following
Step 2-3.
Select the current group as Columns. Click Change Group. Select group beams to
which beams elements are to be moved. Select all beams by Plan View. Click
Move.
Click New.
Specify the name material as Concrete and select the working units. Press OK.
Provide the modulus of elasticity for concrete. Then, provide cracking and crushing
strength (fc’) and corresponding strain values. Click Strength Loss tab.
Provide degrading and residual strain values and ratio of fc’ to residual capacity.
Click Graph to display graph.
Select Inelastic Steel Material, Non-Buckling using the drop down menu.
Click New.
Specify the name material as Steel and select the working units. Press OK.
Provide the modulus of elasticity for steel. Provide the yield strength (fy) and
corresponding strain values. Click Graph.
In Type, select the Shear Wall, Inelastic Section option using the drop down menu.
Click New.
Provide the name of section as Boundary Zone. Click Auto Size for fiber area and
locations.
Set Material Type to Inelastic ID Concrete Material using the drop down menu.
Set Material Name to Concrete (which is already prepared in Section 3.1).
Provide wall thickness at 800 mm and the no. of fibers 8 (which is the maximum
allowed by Perform3D).
Set Material Type to Inelastic Steel Material, Non-buckling using the drop down
menu. Select Material Name Steel (which is already prepared in Section 3.1).
Click Out-Of-Plane.
Provide Bending Thickness, Torsion Thickness, Young Modulus, and Poisson Ratio.
Click Check.
Click Material.
Using the drop down menu, select Elastic Shear Material for a Wall.
Click New.
Note: Similarly for Web of RC shear walls, member section can be prepared
repeating for RC wall’s web properties Step 4.1.
Click New.
Click Check.
Click New.
Click Check.
Click Inelastic.
Select Moment Hinge Rotation Type.
Click New.
Click Check.
5. Define Compounds
Select Shear Wall Compound Component option using the drop down menu list.
Click New.
In the Type drop down menu list, select Shear Wall, Inelastic Section using the drop
down menu. Select name as Boundary Zones (which is made in section 4.1) using
the drop down menu.
Press Check.
Note: Similarly for the Web of RC shear walls, the compound can be prepared by
repeating for RC wall’s web properties Step 5.1.
Select Frame Member Compound Component option using the drop down menu
list.
In the Compound Type dropdown list, select End Zone for Beam or Column. In the
Compound Name dropdown list, select Default End Zone. Press Add.
In the Compound Type dropdown list, select Moment Hinge Rotation Type, while in
the Compound Name dropdown list, select Beam Hinge Select. Press Add.
In the Compound Type dropdown list, select Beam Reinforced Concrete Section.
In the Compound Name dropdown list, select G400x700. In the Length Type
dropdown tab, select the Proportion of unassigned length, give a value of 1 in the
length value tab and press Add.
Repeat the process; add hinge and end zone again. Then press Check and Save
buttons.
6. Section Cut
Click the Structure Sections button .
In the Define Sections tab, press New button and give the section cut a name.
In the Choose element group, select the column group and select the all the
columns in a particular story by draging.
In the Choose element group, select the Shear Walls Group and select the all the
columns in a perticular story by draging.
Press OK.
7. Drift Definition
Click the Drifts and Deflections buttons .
In the Drifts, press the New button and give the drift a name.
