Newscaster 2: ABS-CBN defends Angel Locsin, Liza Soberano against red-tagging

Newscaster 1: Media giant ABS-CBN on Friday, defended actors Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano from
red-tagging, amplified no less by a top official from the Philippine military.

"ABS-CBN is very concerned about the wrongful identification of Angel Locsin as a member of the NPA,"
the network said in a statement on Friday.

"Doing humanitarian activities and speaking one’s mind do not make one a member of a communist
group," it added.

In a separate statement released the same day, ABS-CBN also defended Liza, whom the company said is
"an advocate of women's rights and supports initiatives that protect and promote women's interests."
Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade "warned" Soberano against supporting women's rights groups
Gabriela, lest she die like activist Josephine "Jo" Lapira. Lapira, a UP Manila student, died following a
clash between government troops and alleged members of the New People's Army.

Newscaster 2: Parlade, in the same statement, also warned Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray against
supporting Gabriela and other rights groups. He went on to claim – without basis – that Angel Locsin's
sister Ella was part of the NPA, and that this was something Angel and her nephew human rights lawyer
Neri Colmenares know about.

The military general, among the most vocal military voice against rights groups and Leftist groups, did
not back his claims.

"ABS-CBN and Star Magic stand by Liza Soberano as she speaks out against violations of women’s rights.
This is her own voice and not of any person or group," said ABS-CBN.

Red-tagging, as defined by the Supreme Court, refers to “the act of labeling, branding, naming and
accusing individuals and/or organizations of being left-leaning, subversives, communists or terrorists
(used as) a strategy…by State agents, particularly law enforcement agencies and the military, against
those perceived to be ‘threats’ or ‘enemies of the State.”

Newscaster 1: ABS-CBN also said that it is the right of every Filipino – and not just Angel or Liza – to
speak out and discuss issues without fear of retribution.

"It is our hope that people may be allowed to freely participate in meaningful and rational discussion of
issues without having to be red-tagged," said ABS-CBN in their statement about Liza.

New Miss Universe Philippines hurt by criticisms of fellow candidates

Newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo admitted tonight, October 25, that she’s
hurt by criticisms of some candidates who question her capability as a person.

In an interview by entertainment journalist and field reporter ___, and also uploaded in the Facebook
account of Kapamilya Online World, Mateo said: “To be honest po ah maybe I wasn’t a front runner so
people didn’t expect me to win? And now I have a crown of I’m sorry I’m being emotional.
“They are questioning, you know, my capability as a person as a candidate, but I know that I did
everything and anything I could during that night. And binigay ko talaga and yung mga nagsasabi na the
question was given to me that’s why I answer that way. It wasn’t given po sa akin I did everything that I
could because I want to make Iloilo City proud.

“Of course it was painful because there are things na you can settle by talking to each other. At the end
of the day this is a competition and being the bigger person in the picture I need to understand where
they’re coming from,” said Mateo.

The 23-year-old will represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe pageant

In Rabiya Mateo's preliminary interviews and final performance at the Miss Universe Philippines 2020
pageant, the Ilongga beauty queen emphasized at least one thing twice: she didn't only want to win the
crown, she was ready for it.

We have exclusive reports by ___, live from Baguio City.

Field Reporter: Yes ____, the 23-year-old was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 in Baguio City.
The finals aired both on TV and online on Sunday, October 25. Rabiya is the first titleholder to win under
the Miss Universe Philippines organization.

She also won the bombastic Filipina crown at an interesting time: in the middle of a pandemic, when
movements are still limited and gatherings, still a thing of the past.

During the preliminary interviews, Rabiya said the youth should "invest in [themselves]," particularly
because of the noise that's all too common both online and in real life.

"When you practice self-love, you get to know the right weapon in order for you to win life. I feel like
right now I am ripe enough to win the competition because I've done everything that I could to become
the phenomenal woman that I am," she said, without even skipping a beat.

In a post-interview video on the series Ring Light, a beaming Rabiya said while she was nervous about
the 30-second time limit for each question, she eventually found her pace and was still buzzing with
energy. "I can do another round," she added.

Moving on, we have ___, who has been a fan of pageants for more than eight years.

___, what’s your reaction when you found out about these statements targeted to Mateo by her fellow
candidates?

Person 1: Well, I’ve been a fan of beauty pageants for a while now and I personally think that there may
be candidates who want to spark up a controversy only because they are envious of Rabiya. If
everything was true, why didn’t she do something and inform the others? I believe Rabiya deserves the
crown and she worked her way to the top fair and square.

Field Reporter: Thank you and we also have here ___, who has coached plenty of women aspiring to be
beauty queens. ___, what do you think about the criticisms made by Mateo’s fellow candidates?
Person 2: I think there are two sides to the story. And knowing how hard the girls worked, my opinion is
that there is definitely more to the story than jealousy. There is always a reason for calling out someone
on something, and the truth will perhaps be revealed very soon.

Field Reporter: Alright, you just heard two different views from ___ and ___. This is ___, 24/7 News,
reporting.

Showbiz newscaster: Okay, alright thank you very much for joining with us, that was ___, live in Baguio
City. Coming up we have sports news, we’ll be back after the short break.

PBA: More triple-headers expected after COVID-19 scare

The PBA made changes to the schedule of the 2020 All-Filipino Cup, after a game was postponed on
Sunday due to a player's positive COVID-19 test.

The player from the Blackwater Elite was transferred to the Athletes' Village in New Clark City on Sunday
morning, and has subsequently returned negative results from antigen and a confirmatory RT-PCR tests.

He will still complete his quarantine at the facility before being allowed to rejoin the bubble. In the
meantime, his team was isolated Sunday, along with their most recent opponents, TNT Tropang Giga.

The league still opted to push back the game to a later date despite the said player yielding negative
results on his latest RT-PCR test Monday and antigen test the day before. Blackwater played TNT last
Thursday.

With the upheaval in Sunday's schedule, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said changes will have to be
made to the calendar.

"Ire-resched din namin… Magbabago ulit tayo," he said. "Siguradong may triple-headers na tayo sa mga
darating na araw."

The PBA has only one triple-header in its schedule so far, set for October 31 at the AUF Gym: Blackwater
vs. TerraFirma, Meralco vs. TNT Tropang Giga, and Rain or Shine vs. Phoenix Super LPG.

PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro said there will be at least one more triple-header in the coming
days.

Meanwhile, the main game featuring Phoenix, which had its star forward Calvin Abueva back in the fold,
and NLEX, proceeded on October 26.
