Managing with Information and Data

INFS6018
Individual Assignment

Assessment PowerPoint and Video Length: 10-minute video

Type: Presentation presentation

Due Date: 16 April 2023 at 23:00 Weighting: 30% of the overall grade
(late penalties will apply)

Overview
The purpose of this assessment is to apply the key concepts you have learned from the first six (6) weeks
of INFS 6018 Managing with Information and Data. You will create a PowerPoint and a Video
Presentation demonstrating the challenges of managing with information and data through analysing a
real-world case.
Review the information and instructions below to complete and submit your individual assignment via
Turnitin on Canvas.

Objective
To demonstrate your ability to identify, apply and communicate the relevant key issues to competently
and confidently use data and information in a real-world context.

Question and Issues to Cover

Answer the question below by researching the failed Robodebt Scheme (in Australia) from the
perspective of managing information and data.
What are the key failings of the Scheme and how could they have been prevented by improved data
and information management?
In answering this question draw on concepts you have learnt in the course regarding decision making,
data quality, performance measurement, value creation and strategic alignment. Select two of these
concepts to critically analyse the RoboDebt Scheme and draw conclusions on what could have been done
differently to justify your argument. You must draw upon recent materials from the Royal Commission
including those from 2023. See the section below on Case Resources.

Referencing guidelines, academic integrity, and plagiarism

You must acknowledge all the sources of material you have used in your assessments.
Academic integrity is about honest presentation of your academic work. It means acknowledging the
work of others while developing your own insights, knowledge and ideas.
You should take extreme care that you have:
• Acknowledged words, data, diagrams, models, frameworks and/or ideas of others you have quoted
(i.e., directly copied), summarised, paraphrased, discussed, or mentioned in your assessment through
the appropriate referencing methods,
• Provided a bibliography of the publication details so your reader can locate the source if necessary.
This includes material taken from Internet sites.
If you do not acknowledge the sources of your material, you may be accused of plagiarism because you
have passed off the work and ideas of another person without appropriate referencing, as if they were
your own.
The University of Sydney treats plagiarism as a very serious offence constituting misconduct.
Plagiarism covers a variety of inappropriate behaviours, including:
• Failure to properly document a source.
• Copyright material from the internet or databases.
• Collusion between students.

Note: if you use generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT) you must be sure to reference
and quote (with quotation marks) any materials you use from generative AI and include a footnote on
that slide explaining how you used it. For example, details on what terms you inputted and how many
times you asked generative AI to refine the answers. Please also provide a brief explanation of why this
was useful in your analysis in the footnote. Please note generative AI does not review materials after
2021 and so will not be much use for this assignment as the Royal Commission did not begin until 18
August 2022.
