This monument erected on the rock, above the old


Dniester, on the outskirts of Sorocia, is one of the
most important buildings in the modern history of
Moldova. Here lie, poured into the foundations,
bound stone to stone, the sufferings, hopes and toils
of many generations of our compatriots. This
extraordinary epic is dedicated to all the destroyed
monuments of Moldavian culture. "The Candle of
Gratitude", growing from the depths of our past,
represents a tribute to all the anonymous heroes,
who preserved the culture, language and history of
Moldova in the polychrome palette of human
civilization, at the same time perpetuating the
memory of the great anonymous poet, the author of
the ballad "Miorita".
