I. Objectives:
to teach the grammar pf the present perfect simple tense;
to improve their social skills by giving work in groups;
to improve speaking skills of the students.
II. Materials: textbook “Upstream pre intermediate”
III. Procedures:
a. Greetings
b. Checking who’s absent
c. Checking the homework
Students make a 1-minute speech on a chosen topic.
d. Grammar
Teacher explains the structure of present perfect simple tense i.e. affirmative, negative and
interrogative forms. He presents several examples for each case.
He also explains the grammar usage: Present result, News / Recent events, Unfinished time word,
How long, Life experience. Present simple & present continuous
Then teacher presents the difference between present prefect simple and past simple.
All explanations are complemented by several examples.
e. Task 1
Teacher gives each student a sentence. Students should choose the correct grammatical form of a
verb. Students should answer on spot and explain why they think it is correct.
Ex: The film (didn’t start / hasn’t started) yet
Paul (cleaned / has cleaned) his car yesterday
(Did you ever eat / Have you ever eaten) snails?
It (didn’t rain / hasn’t rained) since yesterday
I (lost / have lost) my phone last Sunday
What (did you do / have you done) last weekend?
We (were / have been) to India twice
(Were you / Have you been) in Spain last summer
Miguel de Cervantes (wrote / has written) ‘Don Quixot’
I (played / have played) for 3 days
Lee (get marry) in November 1999
We (have) a very good summer so far this year
The Chancellor (never lose) an election since 1995
Darren (write) his first novel in ten days, but he (take) two years to write the second and it is still
not finished.
f. Task 2
Students should pair and prepare for 2-3 sentence dialog using grammar rules and questions from
examples.
Ex: Have you ever been in other cities, countries?
When did you go there?
