FIRMWARE UPGRADE

PREREQUISITES

Make sure you have the following items available before you begin:

1. D1000 Programming Cable – Part # 100174.

a. Available for purchase from Blue Sky Network.

b. Build your own cable – see wiring harness schematics in this document.

2. Download the D1000 Firmware Upgrade Kit (available by request from

[email protected])

3. A computer with a serial port, or …

a. USB to Serial Port adapter. This type of adapter is fairly common, however not all of them
will work for this procedure. The adapter we use is the Edgeport/1 (available from Blue
Sky Network).

4. The D1000 Product you wish to upgrade.

PREPARATION

1. Be sure the D-Series Product is turned “OFF” prior to connecting any cables.

2. Connect the smaller connector of the Programming Cable (Micro-DB9) [A], to the D1000/D1000C
port labeled “Maintenance” [1]
 3. Connect the larger connector of the Programming Cable (DB9 or Serial/RS232) [B], to either your
computer Serial Port [2] or to the Serial Port fitting on the USB to Serial adapter [3]. If using the
USB to Serial Adapter – Connect the USB plug [C] to the USB Port [4] on your computer.

4. Now turn ON the D-Series Product

CONFIGURE UPGRADE TOOL

1. Un-zip the “Upgrade Kit” to a location on your computer,

2. Change to the “\D1000FW\Upgrade Software” directory.

3. Run the “D1000 Upgrade Tool” executable.

4. From the Upgrade tool menu:

a. Go to "Setup", "Communications".

i. Set the serial port to match the port which your USB to serial cable or serial cable
is connected to.

ii. Click “OK” to accept the changes and close the communications menu.

b. Go to "Setup", "File Locations".

i. Point the "Cold Loader" to the "\D1000FW\Upgrade

Software\Bios\COLDLOAD.BIN"-file.

ii. Point the "Pilot BIOS" to the "\D1000FW\Upgrade Software\Bios\pilot.bin"-file.

iii. Point the "Flash" to the "\D1000FW\Upgrade Software\Bios\flash.ini"-file.

iv. Click "OK" to accept the changes and close the File Locations menu.
LOAD NEW FIRMWARE:

1. Run the “D1000 Upgrade Tool” executable located in the “\D1000FW\Upgrade Software”
directory.

2. From the Upgrade tool menu:

a. Go to "File", "Load Flash Image".

b. Open the "D1000MAIN.bin" file (file name may change depending on firmware version)
stored in the located in “\D1000FW\Firmware\D1000” directory.

c. Click OK to begin the firmware update process, once completed (2-4 minutes) turn the
D1000 unit off and disconnect the programming cable. You will not be notified that the
upgrade completed and the Upgrade Tool will return to its default form.

- Wire size 22 AWG
- Use 2" of shrink tubing close
to the connectors on both sides
- Use spot ties every 6" or 7"
of wire
