What Is Biogeochemical Cycle

A biogeochemical cycle describes the pathway by which a chemical substance moves through biotic and abiotic components of Earth. Important cycles include water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur, which help regulate the climate and maintain a balanced environment for life. Biogeochemical cycles continuously recycle Earth's nutrients as they circulate between living organisms and surrounding air, water, and soil.

What is biogeochemical cycle?

A biogeochemical cycle is the pathway by which a chemical substance cycles the biotic and
the abiotic compartments of Earth. The biotic compartment is the biosphere and the abiotic
compartments are the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere.

Importance of Biogeochemical Cycle

 Biogeochemical cycles are important to life on Earth because they help to regulate the Earth’s
climate and maintain the chemical balance of its environment.
 The earth’s biogeochemical cycle is a continuous process that recycles the earth’s nutrients.

Why is it called biogeochemical cycle?

The term 'bio' shows biotic components while 'geo' shows abiotic components.

What is a biogeochemical cycle and what is the purpose of it?

Biogeochemical cycles, also known as nutrient cycles, describe the movement of
chemical elements through different media, such as the atmosphere, soil, rocks, bodies of
water, and organisms..
