This is a list of armies valid in 4th edition, with the files to find all their

options. Where there is an actual difference in army list I've put them on a
different line, e.g. for Imperial Guard variant lists.
I count this as 12 major factions, split (including the two allies-only lists) into
33 subfactions. I didn't count customisation in the core codex as seperate
subfactions; e.g. the IG regiment creation rules, the Chaos SM legions, etc.
Note on alliances: games of over 2k points can have multiple detachments. A
detachment is normally the force org chart (2 HQ, 3 Elites, etc) but may instead be
a single superheavy vehicle. Other than special rules (e.g. Assassins, Deathwatch)
this is the only way to have allies.
