METHOD STATEMENT
2.0 SCOPE :-
This document elaborates the activities to be carried out prior to the start of
construction in proper work sequence of Driven Cast In-Situ Piling work at site. The
requisite equipments along with tools & materials are also listed in this document.
1 IS 2911 Part-I / Sec 1-2010 Code practice for Driven cast in situ piles.
2 IS 2911 Part-IV- 2013 Code practice for Load test on piles.
3 Working drawings
4 Specifications for construction of Driven cast in-situ
piles.
⮚ 75-100 MT crane with Vibro Hammer 8-10 MT capacity (NF-50 /PTC 50/ ICE 815)
⮚ Conical Pile Shoe of best quality cast iron or preferably mild steel
⮚ Tremie Hopper
⮚ Welding sets (Welding Electrode must be E 7018 for reinforcement welding and E
6013 for any other structural welding purpose) & Reinforcement cutting sets.
⮚ Mobile Crane for shifting pile reinforcement cages. (P&H 325 crane)
⮚ Refer tender specifications / GFC drawings for test pile installation. Test pile
location to be identified and installed first to find pile capacity based on the soil
conditions before taking up working piles.
⮚ Based on the importance of the individual structure, the critical piles to be
installed first shall be identified by the Planning engineer.
⮚ The driving sequence shall not cause any upheaval of the ground and should try to
reduce any unusual soil resistance to rest of the pile driving.
⮚ The rig movement sequence shall be planned by the Piling engineer in
consultation with the Planning engineer.
⮚ No pile shall be driven near to the recently casted pile, a minimum of 4D spacing
needs to be maintained.
⮚ The piles shall be installed in such a sequence that carrying capacity of previously
installed pile is not reduced.
⮚ In a large group of piles, the sequence of pile driving is such that the piles are
driven from one end to other end `or’ from centre to periphery.
⮚ The planned sequence shall be marked on the drawing.
⮚ The rig movement sequence marked on the drawing shall be given to Surveyor
prior to start of the work.
7.0 EXECUTION:-
1) The steel tube is driven by means of driving at the tube head with a
mechanical hydraulic hammer guided on the leader of piling rig to the final
depth of pile.
2) Piles shall be installed as accurately as possible according to the drawing.
3) The single piles or piles in two pile group shall install with a greater care.
4) The allowable deviations of piles from their position are as follows:
− For single pile: 50 mm or D/6 whichever is less.
− Piles shall not be out of plumb by more than 1.5 % of pile length.
5) Before starting the driving, the casing shall be checked for verticality.
6) Driving shall be continuous.
7) The final depth has been reached according after driving the pile in the end
bearing layer/designed set value is achieved.
8) In case the tube floats away during driving an obstacle is hit the floating can
be averted, if the obstacle is just minor, in all other cases it is necessary to stop
driving and to replace the tube again.
9) All the operations during driving shall be noted down and the same shall be
submitted to Planning engineer as per driving record on completion of pile.
10) Driving of casing shall be observed continuously for checking casing joints
welding.
11) The number of blows required to penetrate for every 1m depth needs to be
recorded.
12) The pile needs to be terminated based on approved termination criteria (Set
criteria) of piles. It needs to be ensured in all piles.
❖ For tying and binding 16-18 gauge black iron wire to be used as per
specification.
10. DOCUMENTATION :-
1) The No. of blows recorded for every 1m penetration from start to end of the
pile, and also the set value achieved, Cage reinforcement details, Concrete
consumed, Slump of the concrete etc. for all individual piles will be recorded
in PILE DRIVING SHEET.
2) This will be prepared by the shift engineer and the same will be sent to
planning engineer for his review and for getting approval from Clients.
3) The Original copies will be submitted to clients, the duplicate copies of the
same will be maintained by planning engineer and the Triplicate copies will be
maintained by shift engineer.
