LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 2

Content Standard: The learner realizes that information in a written text may be selected and
organize to achieve a particular purpose

Performance Standard: The learner critiques a chosen sample of each pattern of development
focusing on information selection, organization and development

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. identify the component and structure of an effective essay by labeling the three
major parts of paragraph;
b. promote the importance of the properties of a well-written text in effective
writing and;
c. construct an essay that reflect properties of a well-written text

IV. Procedures
a. Introduction
The teacher greets the students upon entering the classroom and the students will
greet back, checking of attendance will follow and a reminder to keep away all
unnecessary things from their desk, pay close attention, as well as participate in
the upcoming discussion will be announced.
b. Motivation
The class will be divided into six groups. The teacher will be distributing a
sample paragraph below, the students will identify the parts of the paragraph by
group.
In Wilbert Mckeachie and Marilla Svinicki’s book, they described four type of
challenging students. The first type is called the attention-seeking, discussion-
dominating students. These are the students who always make themselves heard
in discussion, frequently expressing their ideas and opinions whether or not there
is substance to what they are saying. The second type is the inattentive students.
They are those who constantly check their mobile phones, chat with their
classmates, or daydream. They are generally distracted with other tasks, so they
fail to pay attention to what is being discussed by the teacher. The third type is the
unprepared students. They constantly go to class without doing their assignments,
without studying for quizzes and without practicing for scheduled presentation.
The fourth and final type is the uncivil and disrespectful students. These are the
students who exhibit rude behavior to both their teachers and classmates. While
these type of students can be a handful, knowing how to recognize them is the
first step to managing and helping them for better classroom learning.

c. Presentation and Discussion


The teacher will process the activity
The teacher will introduce the discussion about the principle of effective writing

Paragraph- a group of interrelated sentence that talk about one main idea
Essay- a group of paragraph that talk about one central idea

Major parts of paragraph


Topic Sentence- contain the main idea of the paragraph
Body – which consist the supporting details
Closing sentence-concludes the information or arguments presented in the text

Parts of an Essay
I. Introduction
A. Lead or Attention-getter- first statement in the essay
B. Transitional Statement- or the sentence that links the lead to the thesis
statement
C. Thesis Statement-states the central idea or argument of the essay
II. Body- meat of the essay
A. Major Point 1
1. Minor Detail 1
2. Minor Detail 2
B. Major Point 2
1. Minor Detail 1
2. Minor Detail 2
C. Major Point 3
1. Minor Detail 1
2. Minor Detail 2
III. Conclusion
A. Reiteration of the thesis statement- use a different structure and
wording from the original thesis statement while still upholding the
language style
B. Transitional statement/ Reiteration of the purpose, benefit and
recommendation
C. Closing statement- used to wrap up the essay

Properties of Well-written Text

 Unity- achieved when a composition focuses on one idea


 Coherence and cohesion- achieved when ideas are logically, clearly, and
smoothly linked to one another; without it, the reader may not be able to
comprehend your composition

Coherence- occurs when ideas are connected at the conceptual or idea level.

Cohesion- connection of ideas at the sentence level.

 Organization-achieved when ideas are logically and accurately arranged


 Language use- the way language use is one of the clearest indicators of a
well-written text.
 Mechanics- the technical aspect of writing, also known as mechanics,
should be overlooking when writing

V. Activity
The students will be asked to find a partner the objective of this activity is to be able
to construct an essay that reflects properties of a well-written text.
The teacher will provide topics for the students

VI. Generalization
In a ½ sheet of paper “crosswise” the students will answer the following
1. Why is it important to follow the properties in writing?
2. How will the characteristics of a well-written text help you achieve a particular
purpose in writing
3. Why is it important for an essay to be coherent and cohesive
