INTRODUCTION

The world is grappling with the menace of corona virus, a new virus which we do not
know much about. In this situation, preventing people from infection is the only strategy health
experts have accepted. India’s response to the covid-19 outbreak among other things revolve
around raising awareness by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is the most serious global health security threat in decades.
More than 200,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported to WHO, and more than 80000 people have
lost their lives. More than 80% of all cases are from two regions – the Western Pacific and Europe. Our
hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak, and we are deeply grateful to the
thousands of healthcare workers who are on the front lines helping their communities. Since the
beginning of covid-19 pandemic there have been reports on increasing pressure on mental health
whether it is the loss of job or fear of losing one, monetary problems, security of food items, continuous
onslaught of worry by increase in number of covid positive cases, lockdown on movement or workplace
or institution, worry of exams or careers etc. As a result an awareness programme on covid-19 was
held on 15th December 2020 at ‘’Khangabok Maisnam Leikai Thoubal District Manipur’’ which
is about 24 kilometer south of Imphal. Its jurisdiction falls under Thoubal District Division. The
main reason of taking this place is that there is an outbreak i.e. sudden rises in covid positive
cases. This small awareness thought to bring small idea how to tackle covid outbreak in this
area physically or mentally.

REASONS FOR CONDUCTING AWARENESS PROGRAMMME

Participation of the public is an important and most effective approach for controlling
the spread of covid-19. However, considering its novel nature, it is important to create an
awareness among the localities/villagers to able to take timely preventive measures. On the
contrary misinformation and myths from online communities result in severe damages in
mitigation of this novel disease. Social media i.e. face book whats app and any other social
platforms brings false statements that’s why many people hatred covid positive patients after
cure. There is misfortune that was struck to their mind. Spread of this disease can’t be control
alone it required mass participation, community. Only we unite we can win over this disease.
The virus is now spreading which means that appropriate awareness training in the
village/locality will play an integral role in helping to stop the spread of this corona virus.
Educating villagers on the symptoms of the virus how they can pre-emptively protect
themselves and their relatives and what measures should be taken if they or a
relative/neighbour have been exposed is the first line of defense in fighting corona virus.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

Main objectives of the study are as follows:-

1. To investigate the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the adopted locality.

2. To suggest measures for mitigating the problems of COVID-19 pandemic in the adopted
locality.

OVERVIEW

Manipur is witnessing a spike in Covid-19 deaths in the last one week. Last Sunday, the
state recorded 10 fatalities making it the highest single-day spike. On Tuesday, eight more
Covid-19 patients succumbed to the illness pushing the death toll to 327 while the cumulative
number of positive cases has reached 27293.In the past 24 hours 79 persons from general
population and 4 personnel’s from armed forces were confirmed as new COVID 19 new cases.
In the last 24 hours three persons were dead. All necessary medicals precautionary measures
like containment zones and contact tracing are take place by respective health workers.

The area i.e. Khangabok Maisnam Leikai where I performed this report is eye
witnessing in sudden rises in COVID-19 cases. The area was stay away from this disease up to
October. A youth about 24 years which was an auto driver in JNIMS road had carried the virus
and spread as he doesn’t know that he was the carrier of the virus. His family members were all
infected .10 persons were tested positive. Out of this 10, two were child of ages about 15 years
as children were in good health as they doesn’t show any symptoms regards to COVID-19. All
the positive cases were in good health and doesn’t show symptoms. The health department has
performed massive testing in about 20 households which was closed to the driver. The area was
sealed by deputy commissioner of the Thoubal as containment zone as to and fro of persons
were not allowed in this area.

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (SOP)

The Ministry of Health and family Welfare has given standard operating procedure in
order to control the transmission of COVID 19 They are

1. Frequent hand washing

2. Use of face mask

the COVID 19. The awareness was conducted under the community contact programme of B.Ed
programme. The awareness was conducted smoothly. Besides this we also distributed face

Following points were discussed in the awareness.

1. What is COVID-19

-COVID 19 causes respiratory illness like the flu with symptoms such as cough, fever, and in
more severe cases difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands
frequently avoiding touching your faces and avoiding close contact with people who are unwell.

2. How it spreads

-Corona virus disease spread primarily through contact with an infected person when they
cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or objects that has the virus
on it, and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
3. Symptoms

-People may be sick with the virus for 1-14 days before developing symptoms. The most
common symptoms of corona virus disease are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Most people
about 80% recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Most rarely the disease
can be serious and even fatal. Older people and people with other medical condition such as
asthma, diabetes, or heart disease may be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SESSION

Distribution of households items and awareness about the COVID- 19

Educating the children about COVID- 19

OBSERVATION OF THE AREA

There was no proper standard operating procedures (SOP) provided by government

followed by villagers in said area. Some of the people still walk without face mask and there is
no minimum social distance between the people. The shops and pan dukan which were there
are not having SOP while selling their items. A single child with a face mask was never seen but
while we conducting awareness we handover face mask and sanitizers with free of cost. There
is no sign for the government that took welfare and providing the necessary items for that
containment zone area. Containment zone area need a lot things which were necessary in day
today life as they were sealed where to and fro of the people are not allowed in this area.

MEASURES TO MITIGATE THE COVID-19

Following measures should be taken to mitigate the COVID-19

1. Wash hands regularly with soap and water or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.

2. Maintain a least 1 metre distance between people coughing or sneezing.

3. Avoid touching face.

4. Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

5. Stay home if feel unwell.

6. Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.

7. Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large
groups of people.

8. Avoid close contact with someone who is sick.

9. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

CONCLUSION

The corona virus spread so rapidly that it has changed rhythm of the globe. Whether
from the perspective of a single country or multilateral level, the solidity of international
relations has been put under test. The most obvious consequences include economic recession,
a crisis of global governances, trade protectionism and increasing isolationist sentiment. People
to people cultural and travel exchanges have all been restricted. Nonetheless, this is just a tip of
the icebergs.

After we overcome the pandemic which will surely happen we must carry out a
comprehensive evaluation of the world’s ability to maintain stability when faced with similar
challenges in the future. We must also craft measure to cope with these challenges together.
But perhaps at the current phase, we can already draw some conclusion.

A pandemic is not new in human history. But what makes the COVID 19 pandemic
special is that it takes place in an unprecedented backdrop when the interconnectivity and
interdependence between people, between countries and between continents are so deep. The
achievements people have made in technology intelligence and transportation make them both
physically and psychologically globalized.

At last people of Manipur were not fully aware we should wisely handle carefully the
C0VID-19 as it is widely spread and pandemic disease. Awaring the disease and fight together
will make to stop transmission this dreadful disease. We should fight together and help one
another at the time need
