Unit 2 - Task 3 - Applying Didactic Strategies To The Design of Scien

This document provides guidelines for a group activity to design science lessons according to the CLIL methodology. Students will collaboratively design lessons with different stages (presentation, practice, production, evaluation) on the topic of the Universe. Each student will design one stage. They will then create a blog presenting the lessons and include references in APA style. Students will be evaluated on how fully and appropriately they design the science content according to CLIL guidelines, and on timely participation by posting their lesson stage in the forum. The maximum score is 110 points divided between the quality of the science content design and timely participation.

Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 3 - Applying didactic strategies to

designing science activities.
1. Activity Description

Type of activity: In Collaborative Group

Evaluation moment: Intermediate Unit 2
Highest score of the activity: 110 points
The activity starts on: Monday, March The activity ends on: Saturday, April 15,
20, 2023 2023
With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcome(s):

To identify different didactic strategies when applying CLIL to a content-based class

through the analysis of different theoretical sources presented in the course
references.

The activity consists of:

Collaboratively design a Science class according to the CLIL methodology, and present
the class design in a Blog.

Individually:

1. Considering the teaching strategies and suggestions from the readings proposed in
the unit 2. Choose one of the stages proposed below to design an activity based
on a natural sciences class topic:

a. Presentation (In the presentation stage, the teacher introduces and teaches
the subject that the students will be required to master).
b. Practice (In the practice stage, the students engage in exercises and
activities based on the subject taught in the first stage: this will usually be
done with the guidance of the teacher).
c. Production (In the production stage, the students engage in exercises or
activities based on the taught subject without the guidance of the ESL
teacher)

1
d. Evaluation (During the Evaluation stage, students self-evaluate their
learning on the science topic. Teachers also have an opportunity to evaluate
student learning via formal summative assessments and informal formative
assessments.)

2. Post the name of the stage you want to design the activity for in the collaborative
forum to avoid repetition. You can only repeat one stage according to the number
of participants in the group.

3. The activity must meet the following requirements:

a. The topic to be developed is The Universe.

b. The level of your students is Intermediate B1.
c. The activities should be designed for face-to-face environments.
d. All the instructions should be directed to the students who are going to
develop the activities.
e. Include visual aids in the designing of the activity.

4. Post the activity designed in the collaborative forum at least two weeks before the
closing date.

Collaborative:

1. All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of a Blog that must contain the following:

a. The objective of the Blog.

b. A group introduction in which you tell the visitor the importance of
developing the different stages in a natural sciences class.
c. The activities designed by each member of the group for each stage of the
class.
d. A list of references considering APA style.

2. Take into account that a blog must be visually attractive to the visitor, so you may
need to include images, visuals, pictures, videos and else, to make your blog
appealing to the visitor.

3. Do not forget to leave your blog public so your visitors will have access to its
content.

2
The final group’s document will be a PDF document in which you all include a cover
page with the members who participated actively in the designing of the blog, the
link to your blog, and the references in APA style. This document must be submitted
in the Evaluation Environment by only one member of the group.
For the development of the activity, keep in mind:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must: observe the course presentation,
check the course agenda, and the date of the synchronous meetings by
webconferences, and attention through skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must: Have access to the course syllabus,
download the guide, and check the links of the documents you have to consider for
the development of the activity.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must: Submit the final document, which meets
the requirements from the guide.

Individual Work Evidence:

The individual evidence to be submitted is:

● The activity posted in the collaborative forum at least two weeks before the
closing date.
● Active and topic centered participation in the forum that evidence engagement
with the design of the blog.

Collaborative Evidence:
The collaborative evidence to be submitted is:

● A pdf. document with a cover page considering APA style format.

● The link of the blog designed.
● A page with the references in APA style format.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidence to Submit

For Group Work evidence, consider the following

1. All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.
3
2. In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested
product in the environment indicated by the teacher.

3. Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it

meets all the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

4. Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during
the time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the
submitted product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it
includes citations where there is no match between these and the reference and
paragraph f) To reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of
research products, which have rights reserved for the University. (Acuerdo 029 - 13
de diciembre de 2013, artículo 99)

The academic penalties students will face are:

a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the
score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
