Subject Introduction:
The Quantitative Aptitude subject is one of the most important subjects in banking exam. Quantitative
Aptitude consists of Aptitude Questions, which consist of different logics in the questions and dynamic
approach to solve the questions.

Subject Weightage in the Exam:

The Quantitative Aptitude subject plays an important role in your selection in the banking exam. The
subject consists of 35 questions of 1 Marks each, which means of 35 Marks, which solely constitute 35%
of the total marks in Preliminary examination.
This section is Qualifying in nature which means you have to clear the sectional cut off of this subject in
order to appear in the Mains Examination.

Now in order to clear this subject, we have some very important topics in this subject, which will help
you in scoring good marks in this subject and increase your chance of selection.

High Weightage Topics:

1. Data Interpretation
2. Quadratic Equations
3. Number Series
4. Simplification/ Approximation
5. Data Sufficiency
6. Arithmetic Questions
7. Comparisons of Quantity

All the above mentioned topics are the frequently asked topics in NABARD Grade A examination from
past several years and will help you in scoring good marks if you Study these topics.

Tips and Tricks of Quantitative Aptitude:

In order to solve the questions of Quantitative Aptitude quickly you must have good practice on the
topics, but along with practice you need Tips and Tricks to save your time in the examination.

1. Number Series
In number series problems, a series of certain numbers is given which follows a certain pattern.
We have to identify that pattern to answer the question.

Types of Series
● Prime number series

Page - 2
Example : 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19
● Addition series
Example : 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26
(Here, addition of 4 is done in consecutive numbers)
● Difference series
Example : 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6
(Here, subtraction of 2 is done in consecutive numbers)
● Multiplication series
Example : 1, 3, 9, 27, 81, 243
(Here, multiplication of 3 is done in consecutive number)
● Division series
Example : 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1
(Here, division of 2 is done in consecutive numbers)
● 𝑛2 series
Example : 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49
(Here, square of consecutive numbers are taken)
● (𝑛2 ± 1) series
Example : 1, 5, 10, 17, 26, 37, 50
(Here, square of consecutive numbers are taken and 1 is added in each term)
● (𝑛2 ± n) series
Example : 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, 42, 56
(Here, square of consecutive numbers are taken and the same number is added to the
resultant number)
● Missing Number Series
Question: What should come in place of the question mark '?' in the following number
series?
8, 15, ?, 50, 78, 113
Answer: The series follows the following pattern:
8 + 7 = 15
15 + 14 = 29
29 + 21 = 50
78 + 35 = 113
∴ The required term will be 29.
● Wrong Number Series

Page - 3
In this, a series of certain numbers are given which follows a certain pattern. We have to
identify that pattern and find the wrong number that is not following that pattern in the
series.
Question. Find the wrong number in the given series.
37, 43, 55, 73, 99, 127.
Answer: The series follows the following pattern:
37 + 6 = 43
43 + 12 = 55
55 + 18 = 73
73 + 24 = 97
97 + 30 = 127
∴ The wrong term will be 99.

2. Data Interpretation
Data interpretation refers to the process of reviewing provided data and to use these data for
calculating the required value. The data can be provided in various forms like in table format, pie
chart, line graph, bar graph, caselet or a combination of these.

Points to Remember
● Read the entire question CAREFULLY – Read the complete data given in the form of
values, graphs etc.
● Analyze the Data – Take a look and analyze the data carefully. Don’t get diverted or
afraid due to a lot of information and avoid skipping the information before giving a
glance to it.
● Pay Attention to the Units – Many times, different units are used in one question. For
example speed is given in km/h and time is to be calculated in seconds.
● Use of Approximation – If the options are adequately far apart then you can
approximate values, fractions and percentages to nearby numbers which can ease our
calculations.
● Use of Last Digit – Check if all options have different last digits then to find the correct
option we can just calculate the last digit of our answer (but then approximation is not
at all allowed).
● Mental Calculations – Try to do mental calculations as frequently as possible while
practicing. It will help in minimizing the time to solve the question.

Tabular DI
Page - 4
In it data is provided in horizontal rows and vertical columns called tabular form.
We need to understand the given information and thereafter answer the given questions.
Directions: Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions based on it.
Table shows the number of trees planted by the government in 6 different years.

Banyan Neem Teak

2013 30000 25000 15000

2014 35000 30000 5000

2015 35000 45000 10000

2016 40000 40000 25000

2017 45000 55000 35000

2018 55000 50000 40000

Question. Find the respective ratio between the number of neem trees planted in the year 2015
and the number of banyan trees planted in the year 2014.
Answer: Number of neem trees planted in 2015 = 45000
Number of banyan trees planted in 2014 = 35000
∴ Required ratio = 45000 ∶ 35000
=9∶7
Question. What was the approximate average number of neem trees planted in all the years
together?
Answer: Total number of neem trees planted in all the years = 25000 + 30000 + 45000 + 40000 +
55000 + 50000 = 245000
∴ Required average = 245000/6 = 40833.33 ≈ 40830(approx.)
Trick for above
Here, we can take 1000 from each term and do our calculation on remaining data to ease our
calculation part.
Total number of neem trees planted in all the years = (25 + 30 + 45 + 40 + 55 + 50) × 1000 = 245
× 1000
∴ Required average = (245/6) × 1000 ≈ 41 × 1000 ≈ 41000 (approx. value depends on options)

Latest Exam Pattern based questions:

Preparation of any exam is incomplete without knowing its latest exam pattern, level of difficulty, and
important topics.

Question: Mohan lent Rs. 25000 at the rate of 40% on simple interest in such a way that both his sons
of 10 years and 15 years old would get an equal amount when they attain 25 years of age. Find the
share of the 10 year old son in Rs. 25000.
A. Rs. 14000.6
B. Rs. 24809.7
C. Rs. 12407.6
D. Rs. 10410.6
E. Rs. 15890.6

Answer: Correct option is (D)

Let the share of the 10 year old son be Rs. x
⇒ Share of the 15 year old = 25000 – x
⇒ The Amount 10 year old son will receive when he attains the age of 25 after 15 years = x + x × 15 ×
40% = x + 6x = 7x
⇒ The Amount 15 year old will receive when he attains the age of 25 after 10 years = (25000 – x) +
(25000 – x) × 10 × 40% = (25000 – x) + (25000 – x) × 4
⇒ Total Amount = 125000 – 5x
Both of them must be same
⇒ 7x = 125000 – 5x
⇒ 12x = 125000
⇒ x = 10416.66
∴ Share of the 10 year old in Rs. 25000 is Rs. 10416.6

Question:
Page - 10
Direction∶ In the following question, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve
both the equation and the given answer.
I. 1/x + 1/(x - 10) = 8/75
II. 132/y - 132/(y + 11) = 1
A. If x>y
B. If x<y
C. If x ≥ y
D. If x ≤ y
E. If x = y or no relation can be established.

Answer: Correct option is (E)

I. 1/x + 1/(x - 10) = 8/75
⇒ 75(x - 10 + x) = 8(x2 - 10x)
⇒ 8x2 - 230x + 750 = 0
⇒ 4x2 - 115x + 375 = 0
⇒ 4x2 - 15x - 100x + 375 = 0
⇒ x(4x - 15) - 25(4x - 15) = 0
⇒ (x - 25) (4x - 15) = 0
∴ x = 25, 15/4
II. 132/y - 132/(y + 11) = 1
⇒ 132(y + 11 - y) = y2 + 11y
⇒ y2 + 11y - 1452 = 0
⇒ y2 - 33y + 44y - 1452 = 0
⇒ y(y - 33) + 44(y - 33) = 0
⇒ (y + 44) (y - 33) = 0
∴ y = -44, 33
When x = 25, for y = -44, x > y and for y = 33, x < y
When x = 15/4, for y = -44, x > y and for y = 33, x < y
∴ No relation can be established.

Question:
60% of the students participated in an event. The number of boys and the number of girls participating
in the event is the same. Number of boys who participate is the same as the number of boys who do
not participate in an event. If 180 girls did not participate, then find the total number of students.
A. 1700

Page - 11
B. 1800
C. 1670
D. 1600
E. 1500

Answer: Correct Option is (B)

Calculation:
Let the total students be 100x
Number of students who participated in an event = 100x × (60/100) = 60x
Number of students who did not participated in an event = 100x – 60 = 40x
Number of boys and number of girls participating in the event is same, then
Number of boys who participating in event = Number of girls who participating in event = 60x/2 = 30x
Number of boys who do not participate in event is as same as the number of boys who participating in
event, then
Number of boys who did not participate in event = 30x
So, number of girls who did not participate in event = 40x – 30x = 10x
According to the question
10x = 180
x = 18
Total number of students = 100x = 100 × 18 = 1800
