Midterm Exam

This study aimed to improve internet connections, cabling, and security at the CHTM building on the UNP campus through efficient network engineering and utilization of hybrid networks. Specifically, it sought to determine if there would be significant improvements in internet speed and availability for users by applying these techniques. The study used a descriptive research design and questionnaire to collect data from third year CHTM students. It was assumed that the research instruments would be valid and respondents would answer honestly. The hypotheses was that implementing efficient network engineering could improve internet speed and availability at the CHTM building. The methodology discussed the research design, data collection instruments, and data gathering procedures.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Internet has been important for employees and workers most especially to students and teachers.

The Internet is expected to lead to changes in how people communicate, how they work, and how they spent

their leisure. The evidence suggests that the Internet has blended into the rhythms of everyday life: the Internet

is used at work, in schools, in universities, and hospitals. It is used for a wide variety of purposes, such as

surfing for information, playing online games, and chatting (Howard et al., 2002; Quan-Haase et al., 2002).

Hybrid topology is an integration of two or more different topologies to form a resultant topology 1)

Reliable: Unlike other networks, fault detection and troubleshooting is easy in this type of topology. The part in

which' fault is detected can be isolated from the rest of 'network and required corrective measures can be taken,

without affecting the functioning of' rest of the network. 2) Scalable: It is easy to increase the size of network

by adding new components, without disturbing existing architecture. 3) Flexible: Hybrid Network can be

designed according to the requirements of 'the organization and by optimizing the available resources. Special

care can be given to nodes where traffic is high as well as where chances of fault are high. 4) Effective:

Hybrid topology is the combination of two or more topologies, so we can design it in such a way that strengths

of constituent topologies are maximized while there weaknesses are neutralized. For example we saw Ring

Topology has good data reliability (achieved by use of tokens) and Star topology has high tolerance capability

(as each node is not directly connected to other but through central device), so these two can be used effectively

in hybrid star-ring topology.

In addition if there’s an advantages it have also a disadvantages 1)'Complexity of Design: One of

the biggest drawbacks of hybrid topology is its design. It is not easy to design this type of architecture and it is

a tough job for designers. Configuration and installation process needs to be very efficient. 2) Costly Hub: The

hubs used to connect two distinct networks, are very expensive. These hubs are different from usual hubs, as

they need to be intelligent enough to work with different architectures and should be function even if a part of

network is down. 3) Costly Infrastructure: As hybrid architectures are usually larger in scale, they require a lot

of cables; cooling systems, and sophisticate network devices.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Discuss the conceptual framework of the study (use independent and dependent

variable for descriptive researches, use IPO/ Input, Process, and Output for Descriptive and

Developmental Researches)

STATEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVE

This study aimed to Utilization of Hybrid Networks Trough Efficient Engineering to Improve Speed

of an Internet Connection and Widen the Availability of The Users on the CHTM Building in UNP

Specifically, it sought to answer the following sub- problems:

1. Is there a significant improvement on the internet connection and security by applying efficient

network engineering inside the CHTM building?

2. Is it effective if we apply hybrid networks on solving internet connection problems on CHTM

building?

3. By applying efficient network engineering, can we expand the radius of the internet connection to

extend the availability of the users on the CHTM building?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research is believed to be of great help to the following individuals because of its

significance:

 Institution. Insights can be given to the Institution, ways to improve their knowledge.

 Researchers. This study can gives additional knowledge for the researchers and serves as a basis in

their future teaching profession.

 Future Researchers. This study can serve as a basis and reference for the future researchers in making

similar action researches for their future study.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The respondents of the study were limited to College student belonging to 3 rd year CHTM of

University of Northern Philippines school year 2022-2023. The information collected for this study was only

true to respondents at hand. The researchers will focused on the designed also to improve the internet

connections and the security of the building in CHTM.

Discuss the delimitation of the study which not covered by the study.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following terms are defined for clarity and better understanding of this study.

College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM). a management that endeavors to be a center for

excellence in Hospitality and Tourism Management programs to produce graduates and ideals who are socially

responsible, creative, and professionally competent to be entrepreneurs, managers, and workers in the

Hospitality and Tourism industry.

Efficient. working or operating quickly and effectively in an organized way

Engineering. the creative application of science, mathematical methods, and empirical evidence to the

innovation, design, construction, and maintenance of structures, machines, materials, devices, systems,

processes, and organizations.

Hybrid Networks. refers to any computer network that contains two or more different communications standards.

Internet. an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer

facilities around the world

Network. the practice of transporting and exchanging data between nodes over a shared medium in an

information system.

Security. refers to the methods, tools and personnel used to defend an organization's digital assets

University of Northern Philippines (UNP). a university in Barangay Tamag, in the City of Vigan in the

province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines.

Utilization. refers to an act or instance of making practical or profitable use of something

ASSUMPTION

In the conduct of the study, the student-researchers were guided by the following

assumptions:

1. The research instruments that will be used for data gathering are valid, reliable and

objective.

2. The researches will construct a paper-pencil questionnaire as the research instrument comprising 10

relevant questions.

3. The respondents will answer the questionnaires in an honest, factual and candid manner.

HYPOTHESIS

This study tests the hypothesis suggests that by implementing efficient network engineering, we can

improve the internet speed connection and widen the availability of the users on the CHTM building inside the

UNP campus

Chapter 3
Methodology

This discusses the Research Design, and Data Gathering Instruments, Data Gathering

Procedure that will be used in the study.

In writing the under methodology section, it is recommended to use the state, define,

and justify format. The discussion should start with STATE - stating what was utilized in the

study, followed by DEFINE- The definition should come from at least 1 or 2 authoritative

source, and JUSTIFY by explaining or discussing why it was selected.

The first paragraph may contain the STATE, and DEFINE part and the second

paragraph onwards may contain the JUSTIFY part.

Ex.

The study used the descriptive research designs which served as guide in the study.

Shuttleworth (2008) defines descriptive research design as a scientific method which involves

observing and describing the behaviour of a subject without influencing it in any way. It is a

method used to obtain a general overview on a subject. Descriptive Research is utilized

because the study is conducted through questionnaire, interview, and observation.

Research Design

Discuss what type of research design that you’re going to use.

Data Gathering Instruments
