Invitations

An invitation is a request, a solicitation, or an attempt


to get another person to join you at a specific event.
Invitations can be of two kinds:
1. Formal
2. Informal
Each (formal and informal ) can be further classified
into two distinct types:
1. Printed(in the form of an invitation card )
2. Non printed(in the form of a letter)

Formal Printed Invitation


Specific Features:
1. It is used to invite guests for formal
occasions.(mass-scale invitations).
2. Usually written in Third Person.
3. The invitation answers the questions:
Who, whom, what, when and where i.e,
a. the occasion
b.Name(s) of the host
c.Date/time/venue
d.Event specification
e. People involved and their identity.
4. It also includes name, designation and address of
the organisers.
5. It includes name and designation of Chief Guest.
6.The abbreviation RSVP (French:Repondez sil vous
plait i.e. Please reply) is written below on the left side
with name address and phone number.
7. An invitation should be enclosed Within the box.
8.Word limit 50 words.

Formal Non- Printed Invitation
(Official Letter)
Formal Non- Printed Invitation is actually an official
letter of invitation sent by an Organisation/ Company/
Institution to a reputed designation holder. It’s an
invitation along with communication pertaining to the
event. It’s an invitation sent with a proposal to
become a Chief Guest or Resource Person.
Specific Features:
1.Written in the form of an official letter adhering to
the format of an official letter.
2. It’s meant for an individual (example :invitation to
be the Chief Guest or Guest of Honour)
3. Content details include:
a. Occasion
b. Purpose/objective
c. Introduction of the host
d. Date/time/venue.
4. Complete format of an official letter is followed.
Informal Non- Printed Invitation
(Informal Letters)

Informal non-printed invitations are informal letters


drafted in adherence to informal letter writing format.
Example: Letter written to a friend / relative inviting
all for a marriage ceremony.
