“THE CORE”

Reaction Paper:

The core is a science-fiction and somehow apocalyptic film that shows how the worlds
encounters a disastrous dilemma because the Earth’s core stops rotating and loses its
electromagnetic field. The Earth becomes vulnerable and tremendous disaster appear all over the
world. Birds lose their ability to navigate, direct rays from the sun, electrical super storm and
many more tasks place when the Earth’s core stop spinning. The only way to save the Earth and
the people is to drill down to the core, release series of nuclear explosions and set it spinning
again. A group of scientists build a ship that can overcome extreme heat in the core and
accommodate them in their mission. After a lot of struggles and mishap, losing some of their co-
scientist, their mission was a success and the Earth is back to what it should be.
The core is a sci-fi movie which means, it can be plausible or not, in this movie, I can say
that it is fundamentally impossible but they make me believe that impossible can be possible. It
is tricky yet its concept was well-explained in the movie. It is also an adventure with the usual
trills but with the touch of knowledgeable and more sober twist. I also acquired further learning
about Earth and different scientific concepts even though sometimes, I admit that it is hard to
fully accept it given that I do not have sufficient knowledge about it. I give props to those who
create the scientific ideas, like the laser, the vehicle and suits that can withstand the extreme heat
in the core, because it is something that I did not except and it is refreshing in some way. The
movie unfolds what science can do that hardly makes sense and allows the imagination of the
audience to work and stretch. This movie makes me imagine what does the core really looks like
and left me wondering what could truly be inside the Earth. Example is when the people
experienced sudden heat in the melt yet the roof of the car still the same which should be melted
easily.
 “EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL”

Reaction Paper:

In the movie “Every child is special” which is about the boy, Isahaan Awasthi, who was
suffering from dyslexia and the teacher who changed his life. Isahaan has difficulty in
recognizing letters and number and could hardly read and write. The condition his parents and
his teachers had no idea of. Because no one understood him, he felt different from the rest.
Parents and teachers thought he’s dumb and lazy. These give him a feeling of isolation.
In the movie, Ishaan met Mr. Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a substitute art teacher. With his
persistence to help the young boy, he found out the boy’s condition and so offered extra time to
teach him in areas he had not mistered yet. For me, the character of Mr. Ram Shankar Nikumbh
shows us some qualities of a great teacher. A teacher who does not only teach, but inspires as
well. A teacher who is not afraid to use unique and unconventional ways in teaching and using
positive approaches in dealing and addressing students’ concern. The teacher’s persistence to
truly understand the boy changes everything. From a lazy, dumb boy as others thought he was,
turned a very smart and gifted boy in the end. An artist to remember.
Oftentimes we are blinded by the strict rules and high standards in meeting academic
requirements, that, we fall to see the person’s worth. We believe that an under performing child,
someone who can hardly read and write and demonstrate certain skills and knowledge in the
given situation is not worth of our time. In my personal point of view, teachers should help a
child in every way they can. They should look into the child’s potentials as a learner and of what
motivates a child and what does not. Other than a having a board knowledge on subject-matter,
curriculum and standards, teachers must have strong desire to make a difference in the lives of
young people.
 “MULAN”

Reaction Paper:

I’ve waited for a year to see “MULAN”. I loved the trailer when first came out. The animated
version was a favorite. Watched the original one with my kids over and over again when they
were growing up. I know every montage and plot point including all the memorable songs. Now,
I’ve finally seen the highly anticipated overhyped live action version. What a disappointment! It
feels old and backward than the animated version. Boring, bland and by the numbers. They never
got the soul of the original. I guess this is what happens when you only want to cash in on a
franchise. A movie made by numbers people second-guessing what china would love to see.
Lion king live action didn’t work as a musical. This Mulan didn’t work without a songs. Mulan
live action is neutered with all the humor charm excitement and flamboyance gutted out. But
what do I know? I’m sure the suits were right about this. It’ll make tons of money in china. Even
the action parts look tired and rehashed with lots of parts where the editing jumps here and there
probably edited to death on the floor by too many showrunners and producers. But I’ll re watch
the animated one again just to preserve the best memory of how I want to remember Mulan
before it was ruined by this heavily diluted genetic live action version.
