TITLE: "Breath of Fresh Air: A Qualitative Study on the Impact of Cigarette Addiction on
the Health and Lifestyle of People in Barangay Marulas"
The purpose of this study is to know what is the effects of cigarette addiction on the
health and lifestyle of people in Barangay Marulas. According to the American Lung
Association, cigarettes have approximately 600 ingredients of which include; acetone, ammonia,
formaldehyde, methanol, etc. One component in particular is the main reason as to why it is so
hard to quit smoking. The chemical is called nicotine and it is found in cigarettes, chewing
tobacco and vaping products. The content of a cigarette is only the reason why it is addictive,
but aside from studying about the effects of cigarette addiction on the health and lifestyle of the
people who smoke, the researchers also want to identify the root cause of smoking. While
cigarette addiction has been linked to harmful effects, such as the bedtime and wake-up time
tends to be late in the smoking group (Omasu et al., 2021), have been identified and studied in
previous research, there is a lack of knowledge about the personal root cause as to why these
people smoke. The topic of cigarette addiction specifically on minors has received attention
from the Department of Health (2019) since it was found out that about 12.5% of students use
tobacco products that contains nicotine, a substance that is very addictive. In order to counter

the youth tobacco epidemic, the country implemented tobacco control legislation (Republic Act
No. 9211) that included prohibiting the sale of any tobacco products to those who belong on less
According to Knoll et al. (2020), the use of tobacco products such as electronic cigarettes
can cause long-term changes in HR, blood pressure, and cardiac geometry and function. The
adjusted risk of myocardial infarction is also higher in electronic cigarette users compared to
non-users. The data collected through this project have the potential to be used to raise
awareness to smokers, cigarette addicts, and those planning to smoke cigarettes. Dealing with
the physical aspect of the addiction can be difficult. The person must put up effort to change
habits and behaviors if they want to succeed. In so doing, this study aims to acknowledge and
identify the root cause, effects on health and lifestyle, and the possible intervention for cigarette
addicition. Furthermore, the project results may provide clarity and information to local
government units in imposing certain laws that will regulate the use of tobacco products.
This project represents a unique approach to the broad topic of cigarette addiction by
focusing on the root cause of this habit. Understanding and analyzing the viewpoints of the
smokers will help the researchers to identify several ways on how to prevent the further rise of
the number of smokers in the country. The International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung
disease (2020) stated that about 17.3 million adults (28% of the population) use tobacco in the
Philippines. In which men (48%) have higher rates of smoking than women (9%). While 55% of
youth (ages 13-15) and 40% of adults are exposed to second-hand smoke in their homes. While
the researchers will study and focus on the impact of cigarette addiction on the health and
lifestyle of the people in Barangay Marulas, information and study about the root cause of the
said addiction is lacking. For example, an article published by the American cancer society in

2022 only presents the type of people who are most vulnerable to addiction. It was stated that
according to the Surgeon General’s Report (2014), nearly 9 out of 10 adults who smoke started
before age 18, and nearly all started by age 26. The report simply estimates that about 3 out of 4
high school students who smoke will become adults who smoke — even if they intend to quit in
a few years. This project will address these gaps by discovering the personal reason on why and
when they started to smoke, which will then add to the existing knowledge about the risk
The results of this project are important to the family of smokers, local government
units, and to the smokers themselves because they may provide insight into the smoker’s
perspective and needs. The project allows participants to freely choose if they will keep their
anonymity or state their name. This is important since the comfortability of the participants will
be the utmost priority of the researchers. The collected data can potentially be used by the
smallest of the local government units, particularly barangays in proposing and inducting
policies, awareness campaigns and regulation. Overall, the project has a chance to lower the
amount of people addicted to cigarettes since the results may give them insights and tips on
how to overcome this. The project is also important to researchers, especially to those who have
a family member who smokes. The collected data will provide a foundation for further scientific
research on the topic of the prevention and regulation of tobacco usage in our country, from
The researchers will focus on the effects of cigarette addiction to the health and lifestyle
of the people in Barangay Marulas. To make sure that the results will be accurate as possible,
the informants must be a person who (1) has smoked any tobacco product, (2) is a resident of
Barangay Marulas, and lastly (3) have made one or more serious, but unsuccessful attempts to
quit smoking. After gathering all of the necessary information, the last part of the project will be

TITLE: "A Walk to Philippine History: An In-Depth Analysis of the Educational Value of
the Historical Fantasy Series ‘Maria, Clara, at Ibarra’”
The Philippines has a rich history that has shaped the country's culture and identity.
Jose Rizal, a writer and revolutionary who played an important role in the country's struggle for
independence from Spain, is one of the most prominent figures in Philippine history. Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Rizal's two novels, are considered seminal works that influenced
the Philippine Revolution. The aforementioned books were required reading within most
Filipino students in secondary level or high school as part of the implemented curriculum of
our education system, and yet some people find the complex Filipino words and metaphors
used by Rizal including his poetic style as a writer to be overwhelming. Hence, the need for an
open discussion inside a classroom with the guidance of the teachers who have sufficient
knowledge regarding the matter and is capable enough to explain how Rizal used his written
works to contribute with the freedom of the country. The rationale behind choosing this
material is that this TV series which recently gained attention from the masses, provides a new
and interesting approach to learning Philippine history that differs from the traditional method
of reading Jose Rizal's novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The series has grown in

popularity among audiences because it presents history in a more accessible and entertaining
way, especially for those who have not yet read the original literary works or have read but did
The researchers selected this subject is partly because it offers viewers an immersive and
visual experience. Instead of reading a dense novel, viewers can watch events unfold on screen,
which can help them understand the context and significance of the events. Furthermore, the
use of historical portal fantasy in the show allows viewers to experience what life was like in the
1800s during the time of Jose Rizal, as well as explore the societal, political, and cultural issues
Second, the topic is relevant and applicable to the Philippine educational system,
particularly in terms of learning about the country's history. Most high school students in the
Philippines are required to read Jose Rizal's Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, but not
everyone understands the language and context of the novels. The show "Maria Clara at Ibarra"
provides students with an alternative and engaging way to learn about the historical events and
issues presented in Rizal's works. Nonetheless, it should be noted that not everything in the
series follows the text precisely. The original plot of the series was altered for production,
Third reason is that it is timely, as it relates to the current trend of historical fantasy
series. The success of international shows like "Game of Thrones" and "The Witcher" together
with local shows such as "Amaya", "Indio" along with other famed historical movies created for
the cinemas has paved the way for other historical fantasy shows like "Maria Clara at Ibarra" to
Fourth, historical revisionism or historical distortion is among the social issues that our
country is facing. With the deemed Filipinos' lack of knowledge about our history, immersing
viewers to historical shows such as "Maria Clara at Ibarra" aids in piquing the interest of the
Filipinos viewers as a whole which covers children, students, young adults, adults, and even
the elderly, to learn more not only about Rizal's works but with the country's history per se.
Hence, it helps in producing citizens who are well-aware and well-versed of their own history.
This prevents the people from falling into misinformation and disinformation related to our
Finally, assessing the educational value of "Maria Clara at Ibarra" could help in
determining the effectiveness of employing media to give awareness and teach history. With the
increasing availability of digital media, it is crucial to study and foster new methods of
In conclusion, "Maria Clara at Ibarra" offers a fresh and innovative approach to teaching
Philippine history that can promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of our culture,
values, and identity. The use of historical portal fantasy elements provides an engaging and
interactive way that can appeal to younger generations as well as non-readers of the original
novels. Therefore, with its evident popularity with the audiences, the researchers would like to

TITLE: "Attention Please!” The Unique Teaching Methods of Grade 10 SPED Teachers to
Students Experiencing ADHD
The symptoms of ADHD are not easily noticeable in a child, and they do not come to
forefront until the child starts facing difficulties coping with increasing learning pressures as
their education progresses (Maryam Mahdi, B.Sc., 2022). ADHD became a serious obstacle
when it comes to learning because one of its common symptoms are inattentiveness which is
not suitable in a classroom environment. ADHD is an alarming threat for people who want to
pursue their education and may even result into students not reaching their goals in life.
reasons why learners fail in academics, socializing with other people, low self-esteem, and
many more. ADHD is now a huge risk to students who wants to achieve academic excellence.
This study will serve as a guide to raise awareness and show that the disorder is not a hurdle to
improve educational prowess to teach SPED students specifically to ADHD. This study alone
will help continue the education of SPED student who experience hardship because of their
disorders and it will be beneficial to researchers who wants to continue this study in the field of
Special Education.
According to AD/HD Society of the Philippines (2022), "In the Philippines alone, 80% of
adolescents and 60% of adults have admitted to experiencing symptoms of ADHD. This is
particularly alarming because 40 to 50% of children with ADHD have learning disabilities, with
30-50% of children with ADHD having engaged in disorderly conduct and exhibiting signs of
antisocial behavior. 35% of children with ADHD do not finish high school.". Many students are
becoming prone to this disorder and has been constantly rising worldwide over the past few
years which may lead to certain distractions mainly in education caused by ADHD. Early
learning development is essential to young students because this will serve as their path to
reach their dreams and ambitions in life.
The study will take place in Valenzuela National High School and will conduct an
interview between the Grade 10 SPED teachers including the student specifically who
experiencing ADHD. Moreover, this will help the SPED student undergo a pleasant learning
environment and minimize the hazard of ADHD. The researchers want to accomplish the study
to benefit to the families who experiencing ADHD, SPED teachers and students, and researchers
who want to have a further investigation about ADHD. By the end of this investigatory project,
it is expected to identify the proper and most efficient teaching method can be used by teachers
who instruct in Special Education and present more results about SPED student's preferred
learning environment.
This project will pinpoint all the factors needed to achieve maximum efficiency of
teaching Special Education including the class environment, class schedules, students inside the

room, go-to teaching method, and etc. According to Appalachia Educational Laboratory,
children with ADHD most often starts with failure in school and goes downhill from there, with
failure rates double to triple those of other children, about 50% repeat a grade by adolescence.
35% eventually drop out of school and only 5% complete college. Most of the studies about
ADHD are more focused on its teaching strategy itself therefore it lacks the overall preference of
each SPED students that affects their learning capabilities. The outcome of this research will
provide a contribution to improve the teaching methods and lay out the particular factors
needed in teaching Special Education. Teaching in a Special Education environment takes a lot
of careful techniques and procedure in order to give a proper discussion that can be processed
by students. Also, adequate time and patience is needed since SPED students require a special
care to learn the lesson given by their teacher. This study will explore the key components or
skills necessary in teaching Special Education effectively and time-wise.
To implement the study, the researchers need to conduct an interview between the
Grade 10 SPED teachers and students specifically who diagnosed with ADHD. The researchers
will provide a questionnaire for the teachers and students. The questions for the teachers will be
different from the student and it consists of what are they routines or usual methods of
teaching?, how did they handle each student whenever they are teaching?, what are the needed
skills and techniques to teach?, how much time is needed for teaching?, and many more. On the
other hand, students will answer a different set of questions like what are your thoughts about
the current teaching method used by teachers?, what are your tips and recommendations to
fully understand the lessons?, Do you have any preferences?, etc. To get the exact information
needed, the researchers needs at least 15 respondents including Grade 10 SPED teachers and
students. The outcome will be achieved when the gathered information was enough to make a
conclusion and determine the conditions when teaching Special Education to student
experiencing ADHD. The limitations of this study is the only people will be focused on are
students with ADHD and will not a provide an exact information about any other types of
disorders.
