Traditions around the world

We have different cultures from one place to another, it means there are many traditions in all the countries
around the globe. In some cultures they use to do things in their own way and in others in a completely different
one. A tradition is the way of doing something used by a lot of people in a country. For example, in Egypt, Easter is
a very special day and people eat salted fish, colour eggs and have picnics. Also, the wedding party is very special
too because the bride should wear a white wedding dress, like in different cultures, the bridegroom, also, should
wear a black suit but the important tradition is that he must give the bride a gold present. The nicest part is that
there is always a singer at the party.

On the other hand, in India the wedding party is very different because the bride must  wear a sari. It is an Indian
wedding dress. The bride has to wear rings on her ears and she puts a ring in her nose too.

In Japan, people should greet each other by bowing and shaking hands. When they get home or someone's home,
they take off their shoes before they enter the house so they wear socks inside. Besides, they eat sushi in Japan, it
is food made of rice and fish. We have borrowed some of the traditions from these countries. Getting to know
cultures and traditions is fun.

Traditions are the same in every place in the world, they never change.

Pregunta 14

Finalizado

Se puntúa 1.00 sobre 1.00

Read the text Don’t be close! and choose the right answer.

 Don’t be close!

What do you know about British people? Most of us know they have a reputation of being so polite. British people
say that you should avoid any kind of physical contact with strangers. For example, when they ride on a train or
stand in a crowded elevator, they keep their distance and they read on buses or trains to avoid talking to people
they don’t know; moreover, they avoid eye contact at all costs.

A lot of researchers say that the British are much more conscious of their personal space than other nationalities,
especially the latins, who seem more at ease with physical contact. The British people allow less contact, even with
closer friends. You should never touch an English person on the shoulder or arm if you want to call their attention.
Another example of this behaviour is when they meet people for the first time, they shake hands and give one step
backwards to keep distance because they think you may not get closer suggesting a desire for intimacy. Finally,
they almost never kiss people they have just met.

According to the text, what do British people do when they meet someone for the first time?

Seleccione una:
a. The British people give a handshake and a step backwards.
b. The British people give a double kiss and a hug and stare at the other person.
c. The British people give a handshake, a kiss and one step closer.
