Lesson-Plan WELDING

The document outlines a lesson plan for teaching students to conduct visual inspections of welds. The objectives are for students to identify weld defects, conduct visual inspections, and understand the importance of inspections. The lesson includes identifying common weld defects like spatters, arc strikes, slag inclusions, and non-uniform beads. It also discusses pre-weld, during weld, and post-weld inspections. Students will practice visual inspections by identifying defects in sample drawings.

1.PRELIMINARIES
a. Greetings:

“Good morning class.” “Good morning sir’.”

b. Opening prayer:

“Alexiano, please led the prayer.” Alexiano : “Let us put ourselves in the
presence of the Lord. In the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit.

Praise be thy name of our Lord Jesus

Christ”.

Others: “Now and forever, Amen.”

All: “In the name of the Father, and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.”

“Please be seated.”

c. Checking of attendance:

“Rico is there any absentees today?” Janriel: “There are no absentees today.
All are present ma’am.”

d. Checking of assignment:
“Yes sir.”
“Leaders of the group, did you
check the assignment of your group
members?”
“Yes sir”

e. Arrangement of chairs and

cleaning

“Pick up some pieces of paper

under your table class and arrange “Yes sir”
your chairs properly”

f. Reminders

“Wear your mask properly and

maintain social distancing”

g. Review
Jan: sir we discuss visual inspection
What was our previous lesson
class?

2. MOTIVATION
Learning Task 1: Think and Imagine

“Okay class, to start our session for today

let’s have a mind setting.
Direction: Direction: lets devide the class
into 3 groups .Imagine that you are visiting
big welding shop in our province. Think of
a product that are possibly produce by
welders. I will give you a manila paper and
ilustrate the product explain its possible
amount of expences and process.In
5minutes
“Are you ready class?”

By the way all our activity will be given a

prices of foods and candy’s but please be
reminded that we need to take this food or
candy’s in moderate, wash your hands
before eating and do tooth brushing after.

Am I clear class? Alleah: “ Yes sir”

Start showing pictures…

Kelly: “ Flower Pot Stand using Flat
Same settings……( show picture…) bar’

“Very good class, I bet you already have an

idea of what will be our topic for this Joseph: “ Dog cage
session, anyone who can guess?”

“Yes Rachelle” Daryl: “Yes sir”

Rachelle: “Inspection”

“You guess it right Rachelle, our topic for

today class is about the welding steel plate
using single pass flat position” Anthony: ‘Welding output sir”

Loremae: “ welding sir”

Joven: “Visual inspection”

Joseph : “sir”

Joan: “Based on the game sir, I guess

our topic for today is visual inspection.

3. LESSON PROPER
Establishing a Purpose of the Lesson
At the end of the lesson the students are
expected to;

a. identify weld defects on a finished;

b. conduct visual inspection; and
c. value the importance of visual inspection.

Activity
Objective: Identify weld defects on a
finished weldment.
What you need: Laptop,USB and TV
What to do: I will group you into three(3)
and do the activity. Produce a picture using
PPT and put label of defects design effects
in ppt. Do it in 15minutes.

Analysis
The teacher will ask questions to the
students

1. What are the importance of of

identifying weld defects?
Janriel: To make sure to have a good
Very good! quality output.

2 . Why do we need to perform visual

inspection?

3.Are science laboratory conduct also visual

inspection to their product?

Abstraction

Again , what is our lesson for today?

Very good Jack!

When we say visual inspection, what does it

mean?

Very good , Jack: Conducting visual inspection sir

Quenee: From the word inspection sir I

By this time you go back to your group/stay think its all about survey or look over
and do this activity. the materials or output.
I will give manila paper that has a specific
topic you need to discuss in front of your
classmates I will give you 5 minutes to
study.

Visual Inspection - To ensure the quality of

the weld work, it is important to run it to a
quality check via visual inspection or visual
testing, a non-destructive testing. It is a
cost-effective method to maintain the
acceptable welding quality and avoid related
problems.
Tj: Before performing welding sir
When we need to inspect class?

Not only before performing welding but

also after welding to do ensure the quality of
the weld work, it is important to run it to a
quality check via visual inspection or visual
testing, a non-destructive testing. It is a cost-
effective method to maintain the acceptable
welding quality and avoid related problems.

Who can give an idea about The requirements Joseph: The area should be well-
of visual examination? illuminated or use flashlight Sir

Very good , what else?

Exactly!!!!

These are also Others aids that may be used

during visual inspection;
 Welding gauges
 Weld gap gauges
 Linear misalignment gauges (Hi-
Low)
 Magnifying glass (X2 to X5)

Next we have

Welding Inspection Function

1. Pre-Weld Inspection- It is conducted
before the welding operation where it
checks the pre-weld set-up, root
openings, groove weld bevel angles,
joint alignment, and plate surface
condition and cleanliness.
2. During Welding – It is done while on
the operation. It concerns on the
Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
like interpass cleaning method, welding
current settings and welding travel
speed, and the environment that may
affects the quality of the weld like the
rain, wind and extreme temperatures.
3. Post-Weld Inspection – It is when
the welding operation is completed. It is
conducted to verify the quality of the
completed weld against weld defects.

Visual Weld Quality Testing Steps

1. Inspect materials before welding

1. Weld quality testing when welding
2. Inspect when weld is complete

Does the materials we used in welding cost an

amount of money? How much if the product is
Aleah: Yes, in my calculation is around
flower pot stand?
P 300.00
Mark problems and repair the weld.

Common Weld Defects of Finished

Weldment

Spatters – it is a weld defect where the

surrounding surface has small particles because
of either running amperage too high, voltage is
too low, electrode angle is too step, surface is
contaminated, arc is too long, or incorrect
polarity. The remedies for this defect is by
cleaning the surfaces prior to welding, reduce
the arc length, adjust the weld current, increase
the electrode angle, and use proper polarity.

Arc Strike - it is a defect caused by failing to

strike the weld area and accidentally striking it
to the surface of the base metal.

Slag Inclusion – it is a weld defect caused when

the flux melts in the weld or in the weld zone.
This defect can be avoided by increasing the
current density, reduce rapid cooling, adjust the
electrode angle, remove any slag from the
previous bead and adjust the welding speed.
Non-uniformity of Beads – it is a weld defect
caused by non-angular joining the surfaces
resulting to disjoint beads.

Application

Let’s inspect!
Objective: Conduct Visual Inspection.
What you need: Manila Paper and Pen
What to do:
1. Inspect the drawing below.
2. Identify the weld defects.

Everybody: Yes sir……

Are you ready?……

Guide question:

1. Did you see now the defects? Now How

would you solve problems in welding
defects?
2. In real life situations, same in welding we
have a lot of defects in our life what do you
think are process we should do in order to
repair or rebuild our defects/problems?

IV. Evaluation (Multiple choice)

Direction: Choose the letter that corresponds to the best answer. Write your answer on a 1/2
crosswise sheet of paper.

openings, groove weld bevel angles, joint alignment, and plate surface condition and
cleanliness?

( WPS ) like inter-pass cleaning method?

V. Agreement

Study the next topic Welding Flat Bar Using Vertical position 1F and answer the
Enrichment Activity on a one whole sheet of paper. Used Module 5 as LM’s.
