Introduction
Service experience collected with Wärtsilä RTA and RT-flex engines has shown
the possibility to extend the overhaul intervals for certain components. This is an
important step towards reducing and optimising engine maintenance costs in an
effort to minimise the “Total Cost of Ownership” of operators and owners.

This Service Bulletin provides tables containing updated inspection and overhaul
intervals of certain major components. Estimated lifetimes of components and
suggested maintenance methods are also included for each component.

Inspection and overhaul tables

The inspection and overhaul intervals of the major components contained herein
supersede the values contained in the existing maintenance schedules. The
existing schedules in the corresponding engine Maintenance Manuals must still
be consulted because they contain additional inspections and checks of
components.

In the last column of the tables the suggested maintenance method is included
for guidance.

There are three possibilities which are:

1. Replacement of a component.
Replacement of a component refers to its removal from an assembly or
equipment and installing a new one in its place.

2. Overhaul on board.
Overhaul on board refers to the process of bringing a component or an
assembly back to its original condition according to maintenance instructions,
by cleaning, measuring, lapping etc. as well as replacing worn components.

3. Remanufacturing of a component or assembly.

Remanufacturing refers to the process of bringing a component or an
assembly back to its original condition by means of machining or by replacing
internal parts depending on the component. Remanufacturing is to be done at
Wärtsilä workshops.
