CHAPTER I
Introduction:
Based on the study made by the World Bank Development Indicators, there were reports
stating that out of the 209 economies in the world, there were only 107 which can be said as
either low-income economies which means that the per capita of $905 or less as an annual gross
income. However, even they have this kind of income, it can be said that they are becoming
dominant in the business industry since it is easier to put the business and funds for putting up
the business can be easily produced rather than the big businesses. These are the micro-retailing
businesses or simply called small retail stores.
According Moore (2020), this micro-retailing is one of the excellent tool for direct-to-
consumer and the e-commerce firms in order to check out such a retail opportunity. Several
companies have placed vending machines in cities, other have taken over taco trucks, and some
had launched pop-up stores to test locales and customers, as well as assess how the brand
translates into physical retail. Thus, in this kind of business, it can be challenging but a but not as
tough as the bigger businesses.

Theoretical Framework:
In this study, the researchers shall employ the wheel of retailing Theory. The theory
suggests that new forms of retailing appear as price cutting, low cost and narrow profit margin
operations. Eventually the retailer trades up by improving displays and location, providing credit,
delivery and by raising advertising expenditure. Thus, retailers mature as high cost, high price,
conservative operators, making themselves vulnerable to new, lower priced entrants. These are
all evident and practices and performances in the small salt retail store. Through these activities,
they will be the determinants on the success and failure of the salt retail store.
Conceptual Framework
To illustrate clearly the framework of the research, the model is presented in the
paradigm shown below:

Practices and
Performances of Small
Positive and Negative effects

The research paradigm shows that the Practices and Performances of Small Salt Retail
