REVIEW QUESTIONS

1. The fifth and thirteenth terms of an arithmetic sequence are 25 and 65 respectively. Find the
first term and the common difference. (a=5, d=5)

2. Determine the number of terms for the sequence 70, 64, 58, …, -14. (n=15)

3. The sum of the first twenty terms of an arithmetic sequence is 840. If the common difference
is 4, find
a) the first term. (a=4)
b) the sum of the first thirty terms. (1860)

4. Given a sequence 10, 20, 40, …, 327680.


a) Determine whether the sequence is arithmetic or geometric. Justify your answer.

b) Find the number of terms in the sequence. (n=16)
