LESSON PLAN For St. Robert - Thursday DONE

1) The document is a detailed lesson plan for a science class on climate change. It outlines objectives, content, resources, and a process for teaching students about climate change through discussion and examples. 2) Key points that will be covered include defining climate change and distinguishing it from weather, providing evidence of Earth's changing climate through images, and explaining the greenhouse effect and its threats. 3) The lesson encourages student participation through questions with true/false response cards to assess understanding and facilitate discussion of topics like global warming, ice ages, and effects of climate change like rising sea levels and temperatures.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. explain what climate change is;
b. provide examples of evidence of Earth’s changing climate; and
c. draw the correct color of meta card in an alternative-response assessment
during the discussion.

A. Introduction
All right class before we proceed to our
discussion I will present you images and tell me
what is happening. Is that understood? Yes, sir.
CHRIST- CENTEREDNESS EXCELLENCE MISSIONARY

Yes, sir.

Sir, they are food to be eaten.

What do you think are happening on the images? Sir, we have a forest fire, flood, drought, and
melting of ice.

Correct. Now, what do you think this images Sir, we think it is the effects of climate change.
have in common?

Very good. The images that you see are examples

of climate change. Okay class what is the Sir, weather is a “day to day” occurrence while
difference between a weather and a climate? climate is a large scale events.

Correct. Take note class that when we say

weather it happens in a short period of time while
climate is how the atmosphere “behave” over
long periods of time.

Okay everyone our topic for the day is all about Sir, climate change refers to the changes that is
climate change. What is a climate change class? happening in our planet.

Very good. Take note that climate change refers

to significant changes in global temperature,
precipitation, wind patterns and other measures
of climate that occur over several decades or
longer.
At the end of the lesson, students should be
Presentation of objectives: able to:
To give us a clear guide of our lesson for today,
here are the lesson objectives. Everyone, kindly a. explain what climate change is;
read: b. provide examples of evidence of Earth’s
changing climate; and
c. draw the correct color of meta card in an
alternative-response assessment during the
discussion.

B. Interaction:

Alright. To make our discussion interactive,

bring out a one-fourth sheet of paper and you will
answer a true-or-false question as we progress. I
want you to think carefully and think about the
questions. Write numbers 1 to 10. Now, you’re
going to answer using a meta card. Green means
true and red means false. When I flash a
question, you will be given three seconds, I will
read and I will ring the bell to signify the “GO!” Yes, sir.
for you to raise your meta cards. Is that
understood? The students get their meta cards.

The teacher distributes the meta cards.

It means true, sir.
Where are your green meta cards? What does it
mean?
It means false, sir.
And what about red meta cards?

Good. Let’s start with the first question.

Climate change causes positive impact in our

environment. True or false?

Correct. As I have said a while ago, climate

change refers to the significant changes of global Sir, global warming is the overall increase of
temperature. In connection to that, global temperature of the earth.
warming is the cause of climate change. What is
global warming class?

Every location on earth has its own typical

weather patterns that make up its climate. True
or False? Sir, different parts of the world have different
climates. Some are hot, cold, and rainiy.
Correct. Why is that?

Very good. Depending on the location on the

earth, not only the climate is different but also
variying types of vegetation in different climate
zones. Sir, ice age is a period where the earth is
covered in ice.
However, global climate can change. Do you
know what an ice age is?
CHRIST- CENTEREDNESS EXCELLENCE MISSIONARY

Correct. It is a period in history when the polar

caps or ice expands due to lowering of the earht’s
global temperature.

Dinosaur extinction is an example of the effects

of climate change. True or False?

Correct. What causes the extinction of dinosaurs? Sir, they died from an asteroid impact.

Very good. Because of the asteroid impact that

hit the earth before, volcanic eruptions that
causes large-scale climate change.

Class did you also know that antartica was once a

tropical paradise but because of climate change it
freezes the whole region.

Okay class, have you seen a greenhouse? If yes Sir, these is where plants are put to grow
how does it function? faster.

Correct. The idea of the greenhouse is it is a

house made of glass where plants are grown. The
glass traps the heat from the sun, keeping the
plants warm enough to trive during cold days.

Do greenhouse effect pose a negative threat in

our environment. True or False?

Correct it poses a threat in our environment.

What do you think happens when heat is Sir, our planet will become hot.
entrapped in our planet?

Correct. Our planet becomes hot because of too

mnuch greenhouse gasses which raises the
earth’s temperature much higher than what the
greenhouse effect naturally does.

Carbon dioxide help to maintain our atmosphere.

True or False?

Correct. Thhe answer is false because it has the

opposite effects. Carbon dioxide further warms
the atmosphere which causes our ozone layer to
thin. What is the purpose of the ozone layer again
class? Sir, it serves a s a protection from the harmful
UV rays of the sun.
CHRIST- CENTEREDNESS EXCELLENCE MISSIONARY

Now that you learn about climate change, let us

now proceed to the effects of global warming.
Class can you give me examples of the effects of
global warming?
Sir, the melting of glaciers increases the sea
levels, more violent storms to occur, food
production will decrease and species of various
plants, animals, and microorgansism might go
Correct. In out country, what are the threats that extinct.
you think that are prevelant?
Sir, flood, hot days. Cold days

Very good. Hot days or el nino and cold or rainy

days called el nina. In the Philippines there are
three threats that we face because of climate
change.

1. Sea level – rise in sea level is attributed to

warm oceans, and melting of ice in the polar
regions. Since we are an island country, it is
more likely that some island may one day
submerged under water.

2. Temperature – We live in a tropical country

where the heat may rise than normal temperature.
It will affect the biological rhytms of plants and
animals, agricultural cycles, and may also cause
the emergence of new disease-causing organisms.

3. Rainfall – Our country is constantly

bombarded by typhoons every years. Continues
heavy may cause the soil to loosen up and cause
landslide.

Valuing:
Why is it so imporatant to learn about our Sir, for us to be ready and reduce future losses
changing world? As a student why is that? and damage created by climate change.
