“So now, based on the poem you can now

answer the following inquiry questions but in
answering you will pick a partner and you
may discuss or share what you observed.
Lastly, I will ask pairs to present their answers
in front of the class.”

“I will only give you 2 minutes to finish the

inquiry questions.”

convection. In your own words, how does the “Convection is a method by which heat is

“Lastly our PIQ, why does heat transfer take “Heat transfer in fluids generally takes place

heat through fluids (gases or liquids) from a
warmer spot to a cooler spot. It means,
warmer water rises and colder water sinks.”
“Thank you very well said.”
“Great Job, class”

“So therefore, I conclude that convection

current takes place in liquids and gases. Hot
water rises while cold water sinks. Cold air
sinks while warm air rises.”

“Here are the main points to consider as we

continue to discuss our topic for today”
Big Idea

Do you have any idea about heat transfer

class? Anyone from the class. “Is related to change in temperature, it is the
process in which heat is being transferred
from one object to another.”
Very good! An example of this is boiling
water for hot milk or hot chocolate for
breakfast. The energy from the flame is
transferred to the pan and water.

There are three methods of heat transfer.

What are those? Anyone? “The three methods of heats transfer are
conduction, convection and radiation.”

Very good.
We have here the three methods of heat
transfer, can anyone connect the dot from
the column A and the column B?
Column B
Column A
•Absence of matter
1. Conduction •
•Direct contact
2. Convection •
•heated fluid
3. Radiation •

“Conduction is the transfer of heat from one

So first let’s discuss the first method which is substance to another by direct contact.”
the conduction.
Kindly read the definition of conduction,
Gabriel

“Yes very good! Conduction takes place

between objects that are in contact with each
other. The energy is transferred through
particles that are close or in contact with
each other but it is dominant in solids only.”
“Yes, ma’am”
Have you ever experienced holding a cup of

ladle?
Very good, and that is what we call the
thermal conduction.
“Aluminum, Silver, Copper, and gold ma’am.”
Class what do you think are the examples of
thermal conductors?
Yes, Ashley
Exactly! Conductors are materials through
which heat can be quickly transferred.
Different materials conduct heat differently.

“No ma’am, because wood, rubber, plastic

are poor insulators of heat ma’am”
What if you see plastic soup ladle? Do you
think heat will still transfer? Why or why not?
Very good! And that is what we call, the
thermal insulators. “Wood or plastic being thermal insulators,

cooked to the utensils and finally to the

“None ma’am”
“Yes Excellent!”
Any questions or clarifications regarding
conduction?
Now let’s proceed to the second method of
heat transfer, which is the convection.

As the heated gases rise, they lose energy.

This vertical heat transfer by a moving fluid,
What is convection? like gas and liquid is called convection,
ma’am.

Yes ma’am

Does hot air balloon an example of

convection?

Convection happens in the hot air balloon,

because as gases heated, they warm, expand
Can you explain the reason Ms. Maricar and rise, ma’am

“Very good! The convection is inside the

balloon. The hot air rises and as the balloon
fills with hot air the cold, dense air is pushed
out. Soon the balloon is less dense than the
air around it on the outside and that’s when
you get lift!
And this cycle on which make the hot air
balloon or the heated fluid rises and sinks is

called convection current.

“So now, let’s proceed to the third method of

heat transfer, which is the radiation.

“Radiation is a method of heat transfer in the

absence of matter or through space via
electromagnetic waves.”

“What is radiation?”
“Very good! Object with dark surfaces
absorbs more heat than objects with bright
surfaces. Particles can absorb radiation “One of the examples of radiation is when we
gaining heat energy.” stay under the sun, our body feels hot
because it absorbs energy from the sun.”

Class, can you give one example of radiation.

Ms. Kathleen?

Very good example. The radiation coming

from the sun is the most common radiation
that we experience every day.
The same thing happens when you put your
hand near a lightbulb or stand near a bonfire.
The electromagnetic waves carry energy from
the fire to your body. Thus, fire and lightbulbs
also emit electromagnetic waves. The process

of transferring energy through

electromagnetic waves is called radiation.
Okay so now, we can say that heat transfer is
evident everywhere around us. The
illustration depicts several situations that
involve heat transfer.

“Yes, ma’am”
Conduction, convection and radiation all play
a role in moving heat between earth’s surface
and the atmosphere
“Did you understand class?”

“What are again the Three methods of heat

transfer?”
"Very good. It seems like you’ll really listen to
our discussion.
